    19x8.5 with 235,35, 19 tire load issues, shop won't sell/mount tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a set of 19x8.5 et35 wheels and I was going to go with a 235,35 r19 tire to avoid clearance issues because I'm lowered on coils. When I called the shop to purchase the tires they said that they wouldn't mount 235 tires on the car because they don't have the correct load rating for the b8 a4.

I thought this was a fairly common setup on our cars? Is anyone else running this configuration, if so what brand of tires do you have? And have you run into any issues?

i think they are just being cautious and dont want to be liable if anything happens. they prob are wanting to stick to the OEM 255, but 235 is definitely ok on 8.5 wheels, not even near a stretch and is a good flush fit. yeah i'd check out a different shop.

I honestly have never sold a 235/35/19 tire for a B8 before. Usually our customers run a 245/35/19 or 255/35/19. Those wheel specs aren't super aggressive, so you should be able to get away with a wire tire option. The issue isn't whether it's going to be stretched or not, because a 235/35/19 on an 8.5 will fit just fine, but it's the load index, like the tire shop is mentioning. The tire could theoretically get damaged while driving if the weight rating is not to spec.

+1, its not necessarily the tire size or how stretched it is, its the tires load carrying capacity, I think our cars require a minimum load capacity of 93?

I understand that the load index corresponds to the weight of the car, but isn't there a 235 tire with the proper load index rating?

Also those of you running stretched tires which tire/brand did you go with?

thanks for the link, I just checked it out, I guess a 93 in 235 really doesn't exist.

I also looked into the weight that corresponds to each tires load rating.
    91 1356 lbs

    93 1433 lbs

so there is a 77 pound difference in the rating per tire, although if I'm thinking about this correctly, if you multiply the 91 rating by 4 you get 5,424lbs total which is still significantly more than the b8's curb weight of 3549 lbs, so it shouldn't be too much of a risk right? although I'm sure if you drove aggressively it could shift a lot of weight to each corner.

hahah I just got the same thing done to me, your using discounttiredirect.com they wont sell you a 235/35/19 because the weight of the car requires a 96 load rating, 235 has 91, the guy said to run 245 and use make psi to have like a 94 which is suitable. I just went to the same trouble with them, just tell them you have a bmw or porsche something that uses that tire. goodluck

I you are so low that a 245/35/19 would rub and thus you're choosing to stretch a 235 for clerance, you're too low. Just raise your coilovers a tad so you can run a 245 with proper load index.

    Just my 2 cents.

find a different shop to do the mounting for you.

    I have stretched a 235/35/20 tire on a 20x10.5 before

It can be done they just don't want to do it.

a 235 tire will be fine for a 8.5 wheel it will have a stretch

just remember as the tire is stretched and depending on your roads it will wear out more.

That was my first choice but, the rears are maxed out height wise.

I just test fitted the wheels with the 255's again and I'm thinking 245's might just work.

Are there any brands that run slightly narrower than size?

those of you running 8.5's with 235s or stretched tires in general what brand/tire are you going with? I'm hoping to place an order for tires tonight and tie a bow on this fitment issue.

Yes. If you put different brand '245' tires on the same wheel some will be more streched than others which provides a little more clearance. If you search online you can find the exact specs for any tire.

I was also thinking about doing 235 on my next wheel/tire set up. anybody have pics of how much the tire would be stretched on a 8.5 or 9 inch wide wheel?

Wait a minute, so is running a 235/35 R19 on 19x9 OEM Peelers not recommended because of the load rating? I looking for a stretch but I also don't want to blow out my tires.

I'm currently running 19x9.5 Niche Targa's using 245/35 R19 and there's a stretch, but I only checked to see if I was within the recommended diameter variation (within 3% of OEM) and I didn't bother checking the load ratings!

Help! I don't wanna blow up!

    A cautionary tale:
I got a flat after hitting a nail a couple weeks ago & when I went to put my stock wheels on I found that the inner sidewall of 1 of the tires was completely blown/bubbled out & another wheel had multiple bubbles on the inner sidewall. It was actually pretty scary to find this & realize I could have easily had a blowout at any moment.

A couple of my wheels were very slightly out of round & I was usually pretty lax with maintaining the air pressure so there may have been other contributing factors. I am sure there are people who would argue that they have run 235 tires without issue.
However, after this experience I wasn't willing to risk it so when I ordered a new set of wheels I went with 245s that had the proper load index.

i had 225/35 before i went up to a 235 ride quality was pretty bad on a 225....as long as the person knows what theyre doing when it comes to installing tires you wont have any issues...if you have uneven tire wear then thats a suspension/alignment issue...but 235 on a 9.5 isnt that extreme at all

I'm running 235 series for winter. My Dunlops are a 91 load rating which according to some searches is fine. I'm on 255 for summers. Haven't had any issues except the cost of the tires seems to get higher the narrower the aspect ratio.
