Lug bolt spins but never tightens, can't get it out. Any trick to this?

Rotated the tires and I had one bolt go in and it never tightened up completely. Tried to remove it and it won't back out now. What is the best way to get the lug bolt out? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Use a 12 point socket with a shop rag covering the opening of the socket and jamb onto the lug nut. Use a impact gun or ratchet if you don't have a gun and rotate it counterclockwise while twisting it outwards should do the trick

If it spins, it's well stripped
    Jack the car
Remove all good lugs from the wheel
Now with another set of hands, have someone put some pressure on the lug by pushing out the wheel while you try to unscrew the lug

If the lug spins, gun won't do crap, just spin even more

He has to do a pulling out action while the gun is spinning . That,s why I suggested the rag so it will keep the socket jambed into the lug nut. I like your idea also.

Will do Phil, thanks! The lug bolts in these cars are total crap. I've never had this much trouble with studs. That's my next direction!

Now sit on the ground facing the tire. Have the bad lug nut at a 12 o'clock position and your foot pressing against the tire at 6 o'clock applying psi and try spinning the lug nut with tool of choice. The psi will maybe enough to grab what ever good threads left and possible spin off

That is why I always check my lugs when I leave any tire service place.
It happend to my previous vehicle. Too much torx with one messed up lug.
I learned it the hard way, but you should always keep an eye on it.
Just my $0.02 Better to be safe then sorry.

Anti seize on lugs is a no-no I thought. Because it screws with torque settings.

Got it out with the combined method of pushing on the oppposite side of the wheel from the stripped bolt. Worked like a champ without issue. Retapped the hole and fixed it up for a new bolt for now. Going the stud route, so this is the last time I'm dealing with these shitty bolts. Thanks so much for all the help! This site f***in' rules!

I remember a couple years back, some kid had a wheel bolt stuck on his MK5 GTI, so they CUT the wheel off some how, hilarity ensued it was all over Vortex.

I broke the teeth on the locking key lug nut last year. That was a MAJOR pita. I bought a socket to jam over top the lug and then try to unscrew it that way, but damn Audi has to make circular lugs (probably to prevent thieves doing just that).
