    1.8t silent turbo!

    Hey guys

After having my usp avant for a few months now I would like to actually hear the turbo.

    What are my options?

I have looked at open cone filters - which I know will give me 0 gains but more noise? Although with it being sat right above the turbo I guess it will just cause issues?

I had a TT 225 Quattro which had airbox holes and a piper cross panel filter which sounded great - is this an option for the a4? Would this cause much heat issues for the a4?

Some people seem to drill into the wheel lining which I don't think I like the sound of due to water etc.

The car is all stock at present.

    Thanks guys.

You can do a cone filter in the stock airbox, or just a cone filter. You can also do the Darintake mod where you drill holes in the bottom of the airbox. All will allow you to hear more induction noise.

Best way to hear turbo is to have a quiet exhaust and big turbo. Since you have a stock exhaust, you should go with something bigger turbo like GTRS and tune. However, that would probably be 2-4k bucks. They make pretty cool exhaust whistles that replicate the turbo noise. I personally got a bigger turbo and smile every time it whines up on the hwy.

^^ 'Bigger' turbo needs a bigger free-flowing exhaust not a stock exhaust.

If you really want to hear some nice noises get an anti-surge compressor housing and external wastegate with an open dump tube.

GTRS is just fine with a testpipe/ downpipe.

    Just put in a testpipe.
Kinda hard to hear from inside the car sometimes. But from the outside its very noticeable. It was like 150ish$ from 034motorsport

I agree with the come filter/Darintake Mod suggestion and test pipe or high flow cat. Arguably, The factory cat is super restrictive.

I was in your situation op, I have had my 04 1.8T USP for over a year and just got around to doing a test pipe (ecstuning), 710N diverter, and unitronic stage 1 software. It's a noticeable difference vs stock. Already have my sights on a GTRS setup in the near future. Very helpful DIY's available on here!
