    Blew off intercooler hose, damage?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was driving at lunch today during work and hit the gas a bit, off came drivers side intercooler hose accompanied by a loud whoosh sound I immediately realized what happened and drove back to work in vacuum. So did I potentially hurt anything? Just going to reconnect it after work and drive home.

Wish this was true for me after I got my STK running last year. I forgot I had a "temporary" pipe with no weld beads right up near my ds headlight. Well I was taking a friend for a quick spin to show him what 22psi felt like on the new revision of my tune and pop..... goes my headlight tabs

some people say driving for more than a few miles like that will over spin turbos and damage them. Not sure how much truth in this. Probably from running rich there is some likelyhood of fouling O2 sensors and plugs.

Shit, I'm still having issues with 034 TB boot blowing off. I've tried hairspray and sleeved clamps, still blow the DS bi-pipe. Time to go APR I guess.

I got tired of the TBB pretty early on and forked out the cash for the APR bipipe. After breaking 2 boots, I had no patience left for it. I changed my oil this past weekend and took the hose off to access the filter better. Guess I didn't clamp it down well enough. That's what you get for 20+ psi.

the tbb is not the only boost hose that pops off. most people don't have other ones too often though. very common to have boost leaks, and its not a super serious issue with devastating reprocutions for your other parts.

engine movement and chasity flex are as important (or even more so) than boost pressure as far as popping off hoses.

clean it super well, get quality clamps, snug it up, check your engine mounts, and ride it until it fails again. rinse and repeat.

Guess I'm lucky. 22psi never had a hose pop off. Not even my bi-pipes with samco.

I have these very same Swedish ABA clamps on everything with boost associated with it. Bought a box load of them from ECS. Very good clamps, but I have to remember to tighten them down properly

I blew hoses off at least 10 times, it makes a very loud pop doing that at over 30psi :).

And no, you cannot overspin a turbo once you pop a hose off since your engine essentially immediately stalls since MAF is no registering any flow.

I was at 27psi when mine "popped" :) I noticed the slight stall.. good to know it didn't over spin.

Tbolt! Last week my samco TBB blew off. I replaced it with a 034 and Tbolt clamp and have not had any problems with it yet.

034 is crap, too soft so it balloons and pulls the material from under the clamps. IE boots are way stiffer and don't have that issue.

This! I'm so sick of mine! I'm gonna try one more thing (contact cement) and if it doesn't work I'm going APR.

Installing the APR bipipe is lots of fun, just so you know. There will be blood. There will be cursing. There should be beer.

I actually went and check on it last night. Still didn't sit well. I put the samco back on just with a Tbolt this time. That should solve it.

I don't think you will over boost the turbos w/ a blown off intercooler hose as the wastegate should prevent this.
Like others said above, no damage should be done unless debris are sucked in.
