Any way to patch or repair Allroad air suspension hose line?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Sprung a leak in the line going to front right strut/bag. Long story as to how, not my fault, but need the solution. I will worry about the blame (shop) on my own. It's pretty substantial too, very loud and holds zero pressure..

Is there ANY way I can patch it?? Or is there a type of hose or line I can get local that can be patched in with some fittings? If so, what hose & what fittings?? In a real jam here... Replacing the whole line will cost $100+ for the line alone, and its a pain in the ass the way it runs from the back of the car, under, through, and over the woods.. I would rather not have to do that..

Part # if anyone is curious (future searches maybe) is 4Z7616698..

I know of a yard on Long Island that has an allroad there pretty cool they will probably let you pull the line you need out

Would love that info for other parts, PM it to me if you can.

As far as a used line, who knows the condition and if it will survive the removal process.. And it's not something I would want to remove at the yard either. The line goes through fender liner, into the interior, into a loom with wires, then under the car, then to the manifold at the rear. I'm SO not doing that... I would way sooner pay $100 for a new one than do all of that for a ~$50 used one..

So far I have found out it is supposedly a 4mm line. No idea what the official type of line is, where to get it, and what fittings are needed to splice in a section..

Neither of those are anywhere near me. I looked on both sites. Don't really have time to order & ship unless no other option. Need the car up and running asap. Hoping to pick up the parts local. Anyone know of a store like those on Long Island or NY Metro (Brooklyn Queens) area??

Try a semi truck parts place, or somewhere that services the bigger trucks (specifically the brakes). You could also replace it with hydraulic line which should be relatively easy to find, but you will need different fittings as well which might be a pain (and more expensive). Hydraulic hoses can be found at tractor/heavy machinery places if you choose to go that route.

I was able to find some push connect fittings, rated at 150 psi, at Grainger in my area. They will be here tomorrow. I really do not have much faith in them. They look just like the fittings in my meth kit that I have to replace often from leaks.. I may end up replacing the whole line if it doesn't hold proper pressure/height.. I was really hoping for a compression fitting.. This may at least get the car functional. I can maybe search more and order something else.

Anyone know how the line runs from front right to the manifold at the back? Some told me its all under the car, under those channel covers. That I would happily do. I also read somewhere that it runs inside the car, under the carpet & trim along side wires in wire looms.. I will NOT do that..

The line are on the outside of the car, it goes through the liner then down under the car, protect by the channel cover and out to the block.

That is good news. Positive on that? Any idea how it goes across the car though? Since the manifold is on the drivers side, where does the green line cross over?

If this is the case, I may end up replacing the line anyway. The fittings arrive tomorrow, and I will update either way..

Slight update. The fittings came yesterday. One of them was useless. I was able to make it leak substantially by blowing on the line. The other seemed good under that test, and when I turned everything on, there was no audible leaks. However, it seems to leak slowly. Dropped about a half inch in ~45 min. So it obviously won't hold overnight. I will try one more thing, then give in and get the whole line, which hopefully just goes under the car & not inside. But first I am going to try covering the whole fitting & a bit up & down each end of the tube with some JB Weld epoxy. That works for meth fittings in stock plastic bi-pipes, so maybe it will work for the air line. Otherwise, replacing the $110 line...

^That's interesting & tempting.. I may do that if the fittings can just be swapped over. Much cheaper than OEM line.. Only thing I am curious about, and looking into, is if the OEM line comes with new fittings. That would make it more appealing. And if it is pre-bent to shape like so many hoses are, or if it is just a spool of tubing like that.. Also looking into if fittings alone can be purchased. OEM fittings plus generic tubing might be my solution..

Very well. I got a coupler from Grainger and it's still holding fine. It's a push connect coupler, like Meth kit lines. I think 4mm. Was only a few dollars too.

There's also ebay listings for bundles of hose if you want to run one piece lines. Much cheaper than a new OEM line, but not pre-bent. If I was going to replace the full line, I'd do OEM for the bends. But for a section I'd think the ebay line is fine. I didn't check Grainger for hoses/lines, but they might have it too.

We're the 4mm push to connect fittings stainless or the plastic ones? It's almost hard to believe they are leaking if they are the stainless ones, I design these into nuclear applications all the time. I have a few at my office in 4mm PTC to threaded and PTC to PTC I can send you a few out Monday morning if you run out of options. I also have 4mm poly tubing but it's yellow if you need some of that let me know.

I bought metal ones and plastic ones and had better luck with the plastic ones, oddly enough. Ended up needing to patch 2 places. Both still hold fine now.

I'm currently attempting to fix a broke air line right now too. From my research I found these:

    - Push to connect unions from McMaster-Carr: 5225K61

If I decide to replace the entire air line:
    - Push to connect air fittings from McMaster-Carr: 5225K501
    - Freelin Wade 4mm Nylon 11 air line from General Industrial: https://www.generalindustrial.net/fr...-100-roll.html

The ones in the pic above look the same as the ones that worked for me, just different color. An important factor is that the ends of the tube need a clean and straight cut on them. Same as Meth injection lines. Use a fresh, clean razor. Not scissors or cutters. And don't pinch/crimp it.

I just tried to have my car aligned and the shop severed the line to my LR bag. Limped it home and I'll never be going anywhere but the dealer from now on.

But now I need to fix the leak. Can I just cut the line and add one of these guys in-line to patch it?

Just make absolutely sure to use a sharp utility knife ONLY to cut the line. No scissors or clippers of any kind as they will flatten the line and o-ring won't seal anymore.Only remove a very tiny section of hose as it goes in pretty deep into the fitting once you press it. I think there might be only couple of mms of separation between ends inside of the fitting when you done, so it is better to go easy on trimming the ends than do too much and have a bigger problem of line being too short now :)

That sucks. In a perfect world, I'd have my own lift, tire machines, alignment rack, robotic TIG welder, mandrel pipe bending machine that can handle up to 4" pipe, CNC machine, and a 3-D printer. Oh and a paint/baking booth. Oh yeah and a monstrous compressor with air tools, sand/media blasting cabinet, tanks for acid dipping and hot tanking, a mill, and the skills to use all of them.

This way I'd never have to leave my car with anyone for any type of service, bastards.

I have tried 6 times to make this repair/patch work and it just continues to leak. I will be replacing the entire line soon.

Wow, resurrected a thread I started in 2014.. So I was able to find couplers for the oem air lines. Local too, which was great. I was able to cut a small section of line out, where the hole was, and just put the coupler in line to patch it. In another location, with a bigger issue, I was able to splice in a section of new hose.

    These are what I used:
