Loud Metal on Metal Sound While Driving

Interesting experience yesterday. Car sat overnight in the garage and didn't move for some 14+ hours. Get it out on the road and I hear the most hellacious sound coming from my front wheels like metal rubbing against metal. Thought it was the brakes or something dragging under the car so I pulled over to check. Saw nothing and drove on with the sound still there. Decided to pull over again and do another inspection so I take a right at a light and the noise instantly vanishes. Hasn't reappeared since, but obviously this isn't normal. Planning on stopping at the dealership on Monday to make an appointment. I also have the "springy" sound coming from the rear of the car at low speeds or when the car is almost completely stopped that others have mentioned here. Also experiencing some weird kind of pitting on the aluminum trim around the windows. But the noise yesterday was a first and pretty alarming. Anyone experience anything like this? Car is a 2013 with about 10k on the odo. No suspension modifications, and purchased CPO in November with 5500 on the odo.

M on M sound seems like brakes. They possibly realigned pads and clips during normal driving or turn. Can't help with springy sound though I'd honestly not hear it with music, not being snarky. Pitting sometimes can be from airborn particulates on surface such as near an airport (fuel) or from overspray from nearby house, hose, or car, a wipe down should clear them, no? Good luck.

Was it raining there, did the rotors have a nice coating of rust on them from sitting? Might have been just removing that surface gunk as you applied the brakes the first few times.

Or was a rock stuck between the caliper and wheel? It makes a loud noise sometimes, not necessarily metal on metal sounding, but it can be loud.

Negative on the rain. I've driven plenty of Audis after rust has built up in the rotors and am familiar with that sound. This wasn't it. The pebble stuck between rotor and wheel may very well be the culprit. There is no shortage of sand/pebbles on the ground here from snow clearing.

Moose, i've washed and even wiped them down with iso alcohol to no avail. Going to raise it with the dealer. Perhaps they'll consider replacing it under warranty. If they do I'll see if they'll give me the black trim. In other news, check engine light came on after a car wash today. Good times!

i had a pebble stuck between the dust shield and the rotor once before and it had a horrible metal on metal sound, until i turned then it went away. this happened in my B8 S4 but could be the same issue.

^Black trim FTW. Worst case they gouge you for a slight materials upcharge. Maybe you'll get some sympathy with the check engine lamp, dogpile.

I too once had a pebble stuck in the left front of my A7, and it made a similar noise. I took it right to the dealer (5 minutes from my house), they popped the pebble out and the noise was gone.

Rock wedged between rotor and splash guard would probably be the first thing that comes to mind as well.

Thanks brother. Mentioned it to my SA this am and that was the first thing out of his mouth. Interesting that I never experienced that in 60k on my S4!

Update from my dealer on the check engine light: tranny throwing codes. They're not sure why. Looks like an overnighter with the loaner Q5.
