Is it possible to remove the front grill without removing the whole bumper as well?

    Hey all,

Trying a little experiment with plastidip on the stock grill and would like to refrain from removing the bumper if possible. I did a few searches, but everything I come across includes bumper removal as part of the process (in RS4-swap threads).

Just wanted to make sure this was the only way to do it (removing the bumper). Anyone managed to pop the grill out without removing the bumper?

    TIA

No unfortunately there are some screws that hold it in from behind
But front bumper removal is pretty easy, can be done on ground or jack stands without removing wheels. I'm sure someone has made a Do It Yourself thread on it.

    Thanks

Yeah, I saw a couple of DIYs... was trying to see if I can somehow get away without having to deal with the bumper.

    Thanks again

Here's a good link from the B8 A4 section that is pretty detailed.

I agree it's not a huge deal to remove the front bumper, but out of curiosity wouldn't it be possible to remove the plastic under liners / trays that connect to the underside of the bumper and then reach up from under the car to get to the bottom grille screws? If I remember correctly, the main reason it was necessary to remove the bumper was that the block of styrofoam sandwiched between the stock grille and the crash beam blocked the access to the lower fasteners, but I haven't seen anyone try to get at them from the bottom.

Yes, if you own Avant you can.

J/K - sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, though, someone in the B8 A4 forum posted a great and detailed DIY about a week ago about how to remove the bumper that you may want to check out.

    Good luck!

I found it quite amazing how the S4's (B8) disassembles! Front and rear bumper I could probably remove in my sleep now.

Plus love how the oil filter is accessed from the top. One of the many reasons the S4 is a great automobile

I recommend getting a long extension for your ratchet. It will make removing the bumper a millions times easier. My first time, I tried without an extension and the space inside the bumper was so small so my ratchet was only able to click a couple of times.

Front bumper is super easy to remove, 15 minutes is all it takes. You need a long extension for the 10mm bolt up under the fender. No need to jack up the car. Turn the wheels left/right to gain acces to the fender well screw. Crazy easy.

Re the plastidip....why can't you plastidip while its on the car? If you watch fonzie's vids on YouTube, he never removes it.
