    Wink 2000 A6 2.7T Brake Setup Question?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey, I know this might have been covered else where but I looked and I need a answer quick. My front rotors have been warped for a while now. Last time it was on a lift 2 different shops they said WOW look at this lip on rotor. I said I know, I bought the car and I myself noticed it was like that after purchase.

Well Im in the market for new rotors all the way around and pads. I replaced front pads with some $40 pair from Advance Auto Parts since it was the 1st week I had the car.

I'm running into problems getting the correct pads and rotors.

    1. I know the car has HP2 front calipers 4 pads per side. This is the 321mm rotor correct?

    2. What is the deal with the rear brakes? Can someone tell me a size for reference?

Now I plan on going dimpled/drill and slotted rotors from and back and ceramic pads all the way around. Which for some reason local auto parts stores carry rears in ceramic but do not when it comes to the 8 pad front kit.

Also where do I find the tool to compress rear pistons?

    Thanks alot guys in advance.

    Car is a 2000 C5 A6 Quattro 2.7T

Any links or places to purchase these items at a decent price would be great. I wanna steer clear of LARGE brand high PRICED products as much as I have too.

So your looking for a complete front and rear kit, drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads.

What is your budget, there are literally tons of options.

EDIT: and your rears should be 245mm non vented.

I ran some ebay cheapie's for the first year I had my car, never had any problems. Only replaced them because I wanted to upgrade.

You can score zimmerman drilled rotors and hawk ceramic pads from europa but your looking at the $500 range.

Adams rotors is a sponser here, they sell complete custom sets as well, $350 for rotors, not sure what pads they offer.

Well the budget goes by what me and my wife agrees on. But I prefer $500 or less. I wish I could go higher and why I haven't looked at other Web pages and places i know will have what I'm looking for.

I'm looking towards the cheap end. $200 -300 or so on rotors and $120-$150 on pads. I'm not trying to go all out.

But yea. All 4 rotors and 4 wheel brake pads.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

And yes 500 is on the high side. $350 is doable I'm guessing I'll come down from ceramic pads and go semi - metallic but just get a better quality semi-meyallic. I will check out that link when I get home. Driving right now.

Seriously consider that ebay kit. Its $200 for 4 zinc coated rotors, and a full set of ceramic pads. They are cheap, but they did fine over the year+ I had them and I certainly don't baby my car. When I removed them, they still looked and felt great. They will last you until you want something "better" I'm sure, and seem to fit your 200-300 budget.

Side note i forgot to mention. That same ebay seller has the same kit, but with slotted only. I mention this because being they are cheaper rotors, the drilled portions have a good chance of beginning to spider crack around the holes. Slotted will help keep the heat away but leave a strong solid disk to hopefully last a good long time.

Does say for sure they are 8 pads up front, it says 4 pads. I believe I have already emailed them asking for more details. I contacted a few ebay sellers last night. 2 wrote back saying they were not for the 321mm rotors. But the ad above is the 1st to mention the 2.7L Turbo which hopefully mean they know that there is 8 front total pads. But I like that kit so far. I'll be ordering if I can get a answer as to there being 8 pads total for the from.

And no thank you for your help. I did not find this ad with 2.7 Listed and I went thru tons of ads between ebay and amazon.

Yeah, best to ask the seller. I was going purely off of its mentioning of

    Audi A6 QUATTRO [1999 - 2001] 2.7 Turbo; Manufacturer Date 6/99 - 2001
Since the 02-04 has ATE 2 pad calipers.

Ok I called the seller. They do sell a kit with 8 pads and the slotted and cross drilled for the $201.59 and they saved my qoute in there system. It's listed to fit my car. Idk if that ad is for 8 front pads tho. But he went by my info and did not go on the ebay item number but asked the price for the kit I saw. Looks like I will be ordering these shortly.

I am not a heavy brake user. I use to be with my faster cars I own. I do mostly highway and city driving and my high speed runs are down. No track at all. Might got to do the 1/4 mile soon as I am stage 2. But think these will do me good. Better then the wobbling at 55 or so when hitting the brakes or the thump if you get on them harder below 50. I spent a good amount of money replacing control arms and aftermarket rims laser balanced and nitro filled tires that I want it to ride the way a audi should.

Thanks again for you help. Now I just need to know where to get the rear caliper tool. I see one on ebay but its not the square box one. I seen a write-up on how to mod the AutoZone cube they sell. Please if someone could point me towards that I would be done with this project research wise.

Didn't know the 02-04's had so many changes. I like the dual exhaust tips and larger projectors with bi-xeon lights, but they seem like a PITA with the different turbos and what not. All things I didn't know when I 1st bought the audi in march 2012. But now I learn more and more, kind of happy I got a 2000 model since its more like the B5 S4 anyways which I wanted but I'm 340lbs and its too small a car for me.

Agree with the statement on the cube. Its what I use and literally smash myself every time I do it. Having a friend help doesn't usually fix the problem entirely either lol

AutoZone has for rent $60 the kit from harbor frieght. I would like to add that kit to my tool collection but as much as I been spending on this car over the past 2 years $40 vs free works better right now. But thanks guys. Brake kit ordered. Now to just paint calipers red and put my brembo stickers on.

They make a high temperature clear coat I could use to spray over the stickers?

If you're using the cube, the friend helping should be either an EMT or an efficient bartender ...
The Harbor Freight tool is especially cool as it both rotates the piston and applies inward pressure at the same time.

Yes I'm gonna bypass the cube. The rental tool from AutoZone seems to be the same kit harbor freight sells.
