Angry Stripped a torx screw, help!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I went to install my brand new cluster rings I just received in the mail like 40 minutes ago and I stripped one of the torx screws. Damnit!!!!!!!! I was looking forward to getting these on for a week. Is there anything I can do? The torx bit won't grab the screw at all anymore.

Should I sell the rings or is there a fix? Would an allen wrench possibly work if I got it to fit?

try using some vice grips if you can get at the bit.or use a slightly larger bit and tap it in with a hammer. works on engine parts, but i dont know about anything in the cluster area.

If you are really in a bind, just get a dremel if you can fit it in there and cut a groove for a flat head screw driver. Get a replacement also.

It will be very tight to fit a dremel in there. I will try to cut a groove in there though.

Or just get a drill bit and slowly drill until the head comes out. Then once removed grap the rest with vice grips.

If you were closer I'd let you borrow my torch

You'd be suprised. I unscrewed the screw on the right, it was actually pretty damn hard to unscrew. Or maybe it was because I could only use a couple fingers to turn the screwdriver.

i got a 12 point socket slightlylarger than the size of the screw's head and hammered it over it, slowly and straight on, then i just turned the socket out.

pound an allen in, go for a really small one first since it's a really delicate bolt. One of those stripped on me once... I melted it into a puddle w/ a welder. Some say I'm unbalanced

You can always try these. I have a set just like them, works every time. You could find them at home depot or something. http://www.tool-net.co.uk/data/index.php?ToolID=315878
