car won't start unless I beat it.

Howdy ya'll -- long time no talk. Usually a good sign when it comes to reporting problems.

Before we begin: battery has been checked by CAA, works great and is also brand new t'boot.

Come out to the car, remote button won't unlock.
Open manually, makes the fuel pump(?) noise.
No dash, nothing, everything's locked up now (key stuck). I can see red LED security button on the door. Also safety lights on inside of doors work, as do high-beams.

I pop the hood, look at nothing, slam it back down. Alarm starts going off -- cool, put the key in, good to go.

Happens again, though.
This time a few hood closes did nothing.
Eventually after CAA came to check battery and junk, we closed the hood again.

It seems like there might be a loose connection somewhere and the closing of the hood can be enough to fix it (though not guaranteed each time)....anyone?

Have you had the Battery Energy Management coded after you changed the battery? It could be that the car is not recognizing the new battery and is shutting a number of systems.

FWIW, I replaced my battery about a month ago after it being completely drained and removed from my car for 3-4 days, and never recoded the BEM (mostly due to curiosity to see if I would cause any issues). After the new battery went in I just cleared all the low power warnings that were cached (pre-replacement) and everything has been fine. I've not experienced any residual effects of replacing the battery without re-coding the BEM.

I am trying to think of what could come "loose" post-battery install, but I don't even think it would be near that as I still get highbeams & door-corner lights...unless there's a power reserve for particular functions lol

If there was something loose or behaving inconsistently I would be surprised if you didn't get some sort of code. If not from the specific culprit but even from something related or downstream. Any codes?

The battery is replaced in the rear so I can't imagine the hood jarring something way back there.

Snow doesn't bother me but I've had enough of the consistently frigid temps. :)

You cleared ALL the DTC's and you're still getting every one of these? If you just replaced the battery check that all the terminals (an sub terminals) on both posts are tight. What else has been changed lately?

^terminals and make sure the battery is mounted properly. If it for some reason is mounted to high and somehow part of the hood is touching it when you close it, it could short something as well...???

Back when I drove a Ford Escort I had the battery replaced via AAA and kept getting start failures, etc. Eventually I had another guy look at it and the first thing he did was take it out, put it back in, and violently curse whatever moron installed it in the first place and made me swear on a pot full of borscht (he was a very angry Russian mechanic) that I would never use them again.

Also, the entire bit with the hood is comical and reminds me of this great piece of American film.

I'd say sounds like a door sensor or sorts. The car thinks no one has gotten in the drivers seat. You open and close the door however the alarm light is still blinking? Then when you open and close the hook the alarm goes off? It sounds as if some door ajar sensor or something.

I unplugged the battery post for a few minutes, reconnected (tightly) and she's all good now. My one-touch drivers-window wasn't working, and after I did this it was.
Ran the car, and most codes are cleared. Got an HVAC / sirius error but don't think those are related.

Fingers crossed!

Possible you blew some fuses too. Double check them in all 3 locations.

Wait.... Really!? Hahaha I feel so dumb this can't be true... So if i want to jump my car I have to jump it from the trunk? I could have sworn the battery was under the hood am I losing my mind ?

There is a terminal in the front you can jump from but yes the battery is in the trunk

No worries -- they're right. The battery itself is located in the trunnk, under the spare-wheel.

There is a POSITIVE terminal under the hood (close to windshield, under an aptly-labelled plastic cap) you can use for boosting so you needn't empty your trunk and spare to boost.

Thanks for the help, ya'll. It seemed like a loose connection / reset was necessary (just unplugged the battery for a few minutes)
