EPC light on, off again after restart?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So today on the way home I have the EPC light came on with a warning message of "do not exceed 6000rpm".

I called the dealership and they said to restart the car again to see if the light stays on. And it went away!

The dealership said if the light comes on again just have the car towed in, since it's a possibility that the car could just completely stop working....but now since the light is off, they can't do a proper test on the car to see what's going on....

Anyone have the same issue with the car going into limp mode out of no where? And this EPC light sounds pretty serious if it has to get towed in...

The car only has 2900 miles at this point. This is probably the first time ever that I got a warning from a car this early into its life.

EPC light on, off again after restart?

I just had something similar happen to me. Started the car in the cold in my garage and it idled very roughly with the check engine and EPC light on. I turned off the car and restarted and both lights went away and the car started normally. Drove to work and back (75 miles) no problem.

Anyone know what the EPC light means?

Regardless, I'm hoping the error was logged in the computer so dealer can see it when I take it in.

Well, I don't have the CEL on.. just the EPC. I think next time when it happens, I will just drive it straight to the dealer, I don't get the point of towing it in since they're not going to leave the car running on the tow bed, and if the light goes off again, what are they gonna do? send me back home since they can't diagnose it without the light on? I just found it funny that the event is not logged according to the dealer...

Interesting. I was hoping to take it in and have them run diagnostics and see that the code came up. I'm surprised an event like that isn't logged. I'm wondering since I had both the CEL and EPC come on if that will make a difference. Will find out soon.

I had the EPC light when starting the car about 4 weeks ago...it was -20F (about -5F in the garage). I started the car, went in to put on shoes/jacket and when I came back out the car was hunting and the revs were dropping almost low enough to kill the car. Got in and saw the EPC light, and then shut it down. I restarted and the light was still there so I parked it and called the dealer. They said that as long as the CEL was not on, it would be ok but let them know if it comes on again. I went out and restarted about an hour later and the light was gone. Brought it to the dealer and they saw the faults, but thought it may have just been the cold. There are a lot of threshold levels that have to be met and they thought the voltage drop in the cold could be the source. They didn't want to take chances and ordered me a new throttle body. Didn't see another episode in the 2 weeks before I got the new TB installed (plenty of cold weather in that time, too). Not a problem since (~1.5 wks).

I had same in 40 degree weather. I scared me as it was in a sort of limp mode, sputtering if above 2500-3000 rpms. It was fine after was turned off for 1 minute. Never took it in, as it's a 2 hour drive to dealer for me.

It was probably about -15 degrees in Chicago here when it happened to me, so I wonder if it was related to the cold. I have an appointment with my dealer next week, so I'll find out what's up. It's only happened this one time and since then it's been fine the past two weeks driving it with no problems.

Well, 6 days later. I now have EPC + CEL.

Restarted the car, the EPC went away, but CEL stayed on. I just made an appointment to bring the car in tomorrow. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

BTW, both time when the light came on, it was 40 some degree out for me.

The first time when the EPC came on, I was traveling at super low speed, making a right hand turn after stopping at a light.

This morning when the EPC and the CEL came on, I was speeding up after getting on a freeway.

Just providing my driving condition/temp when the lights come on as a reference.

The dealership called, and said it's the flaps in the intake that's causing the CEL/EPC light, they don't know what's causing it to fail just yet. Hopefully it's nothing serious. I will get an update tomorrow.

Got the car back. The car had a dead solenoid which controls the intake flaps, they had to disassemble the intake manifold to fix it. While the car was there, I also had them look at the trunk latch, which doesn't always latch properly, they had to swap out the whole latch assembly to fix it.

I'm experiencing the same issue. EPC light comes on and a message is displayed...do not exceed maximum engine speed of 6000 rpm. Happened once a month ago, car was warm was not pushing it in any way, just normal driving. It went out within a few minutes. Now, two months later, it has happened 4 times in the past two days. Again, no excessive driving or temperatures. Going into the shop early next week. I'll provide them with your diagnosis TW_RS5 and post the results.
