    straight pipe?

getting tired of my a4 sounding like a prius, so looking to get a better/more aggressive sound out of my car. I don't really want to spend 1500 on an exhaust system just to get a better sound. im not looking to get anymore performance out of the car I just want a nice sound. so im looking into doing one of these two things. 1. straight pipe from the cat back (not sure what size pipe yet. im thinking of a 2.5 inch pipe) 2. deleting the muffler and one of the resonator's (like this video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1daFC2ziJmE )

what would you guys recommend. are there really any cons of doing one of these?

Depends on how loud you want it, the first muffler after the cat is a straight through style muffler, the second one is cambered, straight pipe is gonna be loud as Hell! i would suggest going to a muffler shop and have them make a custom setup with a small straight through style muffler or glass pack in replace of the first muffler, then straight pipe down to a larger straight through muffler out the back, that will give you good sound but wont be to loud, do it all at 3" pipe unless you split it to duals out the back, then i would do 3" to the split, then 2.5" the rest

Sorry i messed up on that, so based off this diagram from APR...replace the downpipe resonator with a straight through style muffler (glass pack) and delete the center resonator, then put a straight through style muffler in its place

I know there are some guys on here with magnaflow mufflers on a custom setup that sound pretty good, and i know magnaflow is pretty good quality for the price, had a custom magnaflow setup on my truck and loved it, food for thought...

For the money you can't beat the SPM test pipe or high flow cat system. Less than 500.00 and easy to install. Will give a much better sound when you get on it.

that first video is me. that was a little too quiet for me, only a muffler put in place after the downpipe and then just straight into a y pipe and straight pipes. Yesterday i installed my spm street downpipe and the exhaust is ALMOST how i want it, just a little bit too loud and some rasp. I have already ordered a vibrant resonator to put into the downpipe section, so the dp will kinda like a awe downpipe but half the cost ($600 for only a dp, lol awe). Its almost where I want it and hopefully the resonator makes the exhaust sound perfect. This is my final system, going to be ready next week hfc----downpipe with vibrant resonator---magnaflow muffler---y pipe into quad straight pipes. I can take a video of the exhaust now and post it and ill take one of it after I put the resonator on too.

Get a HFC and remove the downpipe resonator would be my recomendation. By keeping the the rest stock you would still get more sound / roar durring acc. but no drone while crusing.

On top of changing your exhaust setup, getting rid of the stupid sound box connected to the intercooler pipe should make the car louder too (in the cabin). I remember being pleasantly surprised how much louder the car was after installing my CTS intercooler.

Anyone with a EuroCode High Flow Intercooler Pipe that could chime in on noise differences?

This is what i get from, straight pipe... you put a one pipe the whole way without a muffler. Correct? From what i see it's not a pretty a thing, but my question is how would cutting out the cats and putting a piece of pipe be for the car? Like just putting a straight pipe where the cats are and leaving the muffler. Is that a good way of doing it or is there a better way of doing it? And if I got straight pipe what do I do with the o2's? I’ve heard that getting rid of the 02's can be a bad thing because it messes with the fuel mixture. I'm worried if that is true and if it makes my fuel to lean that can mess up my engine. So what do I do with the o2's? Is there an o2 delete kit?

If you eliminate the 02 Sensors you will have codes from both. There might be a "test pipe" option and with either a tune or 02 spacer that could keep the codes away. The test pipe would have the necessary bungs for the 02 and would be direct fit for the cat/cats....however i am not real familiar on the 2.8 so dont quote everything.

I deleted both mufflers and replaced the resonator with a magnaflow one. Have the part number somewhere. The piping after the resonator is straight back.

When i looked up a test pipe for A6 all that came up was A4 test pipes. but one of the ways u was going to fix this issues was get universal cats. When i was talking to the guy at the shop he could put a pipe in where the cats are and weld a whole for the o2's to fit back in. but then that does not fix my light and fix my gas issue.

    straight pipe?

Sounds like the center muffler is the most restrictive, anyone tried just replacing that one with a straight pipe?

I will add that my MKV VW GLI which also has a 2.0T was straight pipe for a day and it was crazy loud. I currently have a full 3" Magnaflow exhaust with a catless DP on my B8 and it sounds amazing but I will say it is on the loud side as far as cabin noise goes.

This sounds mean! Did you use one of our oval mufflers or circular?

    Im using this muffler

    https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=10416

In place of the resonator. Both mufflers were deleted. So basically i have this resonator then straight piping all the way back to the tips.

My friend has a straight piped mk5 and its excessively loud (though he has stage 2+ power to show for it). To me that obnoxious. Id prefer to just replace the muffler with a magnaflow and res with the same so open it up a bit while not being ridiculous. I had res delete with magnaflow muffler and it was probably what you are looking for.

I've got the cts test pipe and downpipe and the sound is actually pretty nice. It's like a Prius at idle but when I give it has it's a good deal more throaty. And the cost for the pair is only like $650 I'm pretty sure.

I have a 98 A4 Quattro 2.8l would this sound good for me do you think, my exhaust is relatively the same except the second resonator is split to each pipe
