Bad Bosch 5.0 ABS module, what to do?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2001 Tip with ESP, which means that I have the Bosch 5.0 ABS module. It is failing. The research I have done says that it can't be rebuilt. The research also suggests that the actual electronic "brain" is somewhere under the back seats. This leads me to believe that I need to replace that module, and not the unit attached to the ABS assembly under the hood. However, I have not seen any threads on how to fix this issue with the 5.0 module. How do you fix this guru's?

They rebuild both 5.0 and 5.3 modules..

Mine was done by them back in 2008 and it is still working to the day.. Great company to work with.

R&R, that's the fix. There's no 'fixing' failed microprocessors. The question you need to ask is 'used' or 'new' control module.

rip the CM out first and check for water leakage and that the contact points are not corroded. Past that, replace.

I've been trying to find the part number for the EBCM, I don't have a problem eventually just buying a new one if mine is toast. I will be checking this during the weekend to see if there is moisture/corrosion.

I can check ETKA, but you should be able to simply lift the rear seat and the BCM is located right under the bench.

Update: I found the part number for the controller. It didn't look like any moisture got in there. Now I'm having trouble sourcing the controller.

Edit: Found a couple on ebay.. just kinda sketchy about buying a used one from there.

Contact BlkdoutS4. He's parting out his S4 and I'm pretty sure he's got the controller you're looking for.

That's weird those things rarely fail. Why not find a local s4 to swap computers for testing

The module under the back seat is the yaw sensor. It's for the esp system. If you abs unit is failing you can take the unit off without taking any brake lines off. A little tight but u can get it out. Send it to module masters to be rebuilt. You can still drive the car till u get it back. U just won't have abs and a few lights on in the dash.

Swapped with a known good one, and still the same result. So the only thing left is the ABS module under the hood. Aggravated.

Edit: Part# 8E0614111T is probably shot. That is the valvebody under the hood. I will need to check the other "brain" which is under the passenger side carpet apparently. The battle continues.. but I WILL win the war!

They don't rebuild Bosch 5.0 modules. So now I have to scour the entire planet to find a working 5.0 module that doesn't cost $1.4 million. Perhaps I can install a 5.3 module, that if it fails CAN be rebuilt.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I'm still trying to get this ABS thing figured out. Does anybody know if you can swap a Bosch 5.3 valve body in place of a Bosch 5.0? Any brake gurus among us??

My ABS module went bad, and it cannot be fixed like all the other Bosch modules can because I have the 5.0 version. I was hoping someone could shed some light on if a 5.3 module could be installed in the place of a 5.0. I don't think anyone has done this. I guess who needs ABS, lol.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. This ABS thing bothers me. I don't have ESP either with this issue ongoing. Not that ESP is normally engaged either ;)
