Adding cold air intake void warranty?

I plan on installing a K&N 69-9505T cold air intake on my B8.5 A4. If I do so will it void any warranty on my car?

It all depends on your dealers stance on mods. Technically if they wanna be assholes they can flag it as AOA sees an intake as a 'warranty voiding mod'. I have that exact intake and am leased and haven't had any issues, but my service manager is cool with my mods. If something were to go wrong however and the intake was the cause then your warranty would be voided. But if anything happens, just reinstall the stock intake before you bring it in for any service if you are worried.

Would it be a smart idea and go into my local Audi Dealership and ask them how they feel about mods and such before I do anything?

^ Probably. I did that before I bought the car, it was nice to have the peace of mind that my dealer was cool with it. If they aren't, I'm sure there's another dealer in your area that is and you can just start going to them for warranty work.

Maybe, in the short term, but I would be concerned if there is ever a change in management, or if there ever is a big repair and it is questionable about whether the fix is covered under warranty.

In my opinion, based on what I've seen from Audi of late as far as denying warranty claims, I would not push my luck.

If you really want it you could always just put your stock airbox back in whenever you go in for service..but that is kind of a pain

Not worth it. Many who've installed a CAI have regretted it since it does nothing in essence.

Buy yourself an AfE filter and call it a day.

You almost have it right. Buy yourself a new, clean OE filter and call it a day. Put the money you would have blown on a worthless part toward filling up the gas tank.

+1 Even though I have this intake, if I were to do it over again I would probably go with a drop in filter. Our stock air boxes are very efficient. The only gain you would get from the K&N would be sound, and a lot of it (its loud as hell). If you are looking for performance, drop in is the way to go. Its a lot cheaper too. Spend the money on an RS grille or something.

+1 on this. I had a APR intake on my 09 B8. Was not worth it. Poped in a aFe and called it a day. Apr or even K&N is a waste of money.

+2 I had the apr/carbonio intake as well,it's really not worth it. IMO The sound isn't that great either. After swapping it out multiple times prior to taking it in for service I decided to keep the stock filter in. Also, I was concerned about the quality of the air filtration that the intake provided.

Is this thread still alive? LOL If I add a drop in filter with the stock airbox would it work just as efficiently? I wanted to see if I like the sound of the supercharger, but can I get it with just an after market K&N Filter?

Theres a never-end amount of 18-25 year olds who are buying a car they probably can't afford without their parents help... and then they come here, don't know what a cold air intake is and want to make a HOT air intake using a cone filter, that's why you see them so often. They don't realize this is what they letting into an engine that already suffers from poor piston rings:
