http://eauclaire.craigslist.org/pts/4284902726.html picking these up tomorrow does anyone know what year they came off of? I have never seen them they have blizzak on them which is great for winter here in MN. But I plan on running them in summer too. I know they will ware faster but I read someone ran them for three years no problems what do you guys think. And I plan to paint them, copper or gunmetal

Those aren't Blizzaks that are on those tires. The ad even says 2001 A8. Not sure what ad you are looking at but the one you posted is pretty obvious.

If you need some tires just to get through the summer, they will work fine. If you plan on putting more than a few thousand miles on them over the summer and expecting them to be a good winter tire you may be sorely disappointed.

tl;dr they will work, but wear at maybe 3x's the rate of winter use

edit: + the things he said ^^

with him on this one, they say in the title they also aren't snow tires, and no in MN don't use winters in the summer. you will not make it far with them

The soft compound during the summer months is going to wear very fast. My sister ran winter tires on her car for 1.5yrs on her car (2 winters) and they were killed with only ~13,000 miles on them. If I knew she was running on winters, I would have given her my wheels off my B5 to get her through the summer but women are dumb when it comes to cars and rubber.

Did you post the wrong link or are you brain-damaged? Clearly those tires are Potenzas - not Winter tires at all.

Its doable I ran winter tires through the summer last year but it was a death trap in wet weather.

Warm temp + wet roads & winter tires = easy to slide on roads.

Also the car doesn't drive as smooth as having a nice set of summers/ all seasons.

Yeah like everyone else said, those aren't blizzaks.

As far as running winters in the summer, not only will they wear fast like everyone already said, they will also be super loud and reduce mpg a bit...

I run my blizzaks year round. No real complaints about tire wear or noise.

I ran general snow tires for about a year and a half (two winters and 1 summer). No issues running them the second winter. I'm fwd too. Only complaint is that there was alittle more road noise in the summer

I was told in my area, that when the temp gets a constant ambient air temp of 50F it's time to swap back over to summer tires. I wouldn't run winter tires year round, period.

Those are not 18's either those are the 16inch swings from a B5. Running snow tires year round is questionable. Some compounds are softer than others which will wear really fast on warm pavement.

Either way those are Bridgestone Potenza's which are a pretty good summer tire.

If it weren't for OldGuy, Walky, Devo, and some other OGs, I'd probably never come to the B6 tech forums.

    EDIT: And Jace.

Actually, that's incorrect. Those are the rare 18" version of the 7-spoke "swing" wheel. They are somewhat sought after and were offered on the D2 A8. Part# 4d0 601 025 f

I had no idea those even existed. I loved the way the swings looked on my old B5, they were simple yet sporty. I had even hoped they came in a larger size. Bravo!
