I NEED HELP PLEASE (gas tank issue)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Long story short, because of an accident previous owner of the car (2010 A4 B8 CVT) had, there seems to be a small leak in the gas tank. It started when a CEL came up and when i VAG'd it, it said P0456 (very small leak in the evap system.) I took it to audi and they ran all their tests and whatnot, and called me with very bad news.

They said it has a leak on the right side by the fuel pump, they said they can replace the fuel tank but between the parts, labor and taxes, it comes out to just a little bit over 4.2k i cant afford that right now.

My car isnt running strange or anything, but im guessing my fuel economy has dropped and i can probably be potentially dangerous if there's some type of spark near that small leak.

I asked them if it could be sealed and he said yes but not there since they cant guarantee their work.

The hard part is that leak isnt on the bottom of the tank where i can just get under and seal the tank, like i said its on the right side. So im guessing im stuck bringing it down and finding the leak to seal it up.

If any of you guys could give me a walk-through on how to do this, and what kind of sealant would you use, i would seriously appreciate it. i really am in a bind...

Or a drop finds its way to your exhaust after it's nice at hot.

Find an indie shop that guarantees their work for a year and get it repaired there. That way, if the issue comes back because they didn't do the work properly you can bring it back to them. Also, if the worst does happen, you can tell your insurance company you had a certified mechanic do the work, which might make a claim easy (no idea how insurance works in Florida.)

The fuel pump is right under the rear passenger seat. So a shop that is williling to seal it shouldn't have much trouble getting to the location of leak and sealing it.

Do you guys have a rough idea on how much it would be to just have them lower and seal the tank?

Sorry for your situation. Unfortunately the removal of the gas tank is very labor intensive. If it wasn't for the removal of the rear axle maybe not so much but it has to be taken out as per the manual.
You maybe to able to access the right side of the fuel tank (the area you need) via the rear fender if you remove the fender well liner.
