    replacing interior trim

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thinking about selling my 2007 S6 and starting to shop around for a used 2012 A7.
Is it completely ridiculous to consider changing out interior trim if i find a car where that's the only issue? There's one for sale with the aluminum trim and I prefer the wood.
I would prob have to purchase new replacement trim which could add up to at at least $1500.
Or i suppose i could wrap in carbon fiber..

It's not ridiculous and many people have done what you are planning to do. Matt@o-Carbon sales the complete set of interior trims in carbon fiber as well. However, this mod can be pricey and the least pricey choice is wrapping.

I must say I am very happy with this look! It is by far the best choice of trim available on the S6.

The RS7 I drove a few weeks ago had the piano black pinstriped inlays....it looked amazing. But in an S model, it's got to be tough to not do carbon inlays, they just look so good and match the theme. Either way they're sick. I actually like my natural Ash interior on my A6.

My RS7 has the alu / piano black pinstripes! At first I wasn't so sure about it, but it's really grown on me to the point I now prefer it over my C7 S6's carbon inlays.

When I was shopping around for my preowned A7, I got a dealer quote on changing out the wood trim. The parts cost alone for the 8 pieces of OEM ash wood trim was ~$4000... which makes you wonder if anyone would would ever pay for this, except in an insurance situation.

What is it that you are wanting to do?

Buying the trim from Audi is CRAZY money, no matter which type you want. Even the cheapest wood one is like 3k. Piano BLack with pinstripes is like 7k. Keep an eye out for used sets on the classifieds. Often you can find a used set of wood ones for about 400.

OCarbon will wrap it in carbon for like 1200 for a C7 A6/S6. There is another company or two but it seems they specialize in other cars, although they may do your audi pieces if you ask.

There will be a number of people that will shout "stay away from OCarbon" as there was a bad group buy experience where people ordered a bunch of mirror caps. It turned out to be too hard and time consuming and there were apparently some people that were not satisfied with the resolution to the situation. Some other complaints about not getting parts in a timely manner.

If you do a search for Ocarbon, you will find some threads which demonstrate some amazing looking work, as well as the shitstorm. Here is a detailed progress thread of trim for an c7 A7/S7 with lots of pics:

I found a set of wood trim for 400 and after having some communication with Matt at Ocarbon, against the advice of the naysayers, I decided to go ahead with it. The nature of the beast/artform makes for variable time frames which are hard to predict. I am currently about 4 weeks in and I am expecting completion this week. I have some phone pics of some completed pieces and I think they look pretty awesome. Once I get the whole set back in my hands, I will probably put up a thread with better pics and after install

    have a look:

They are going to look really good on this car, my baby!:

I have the beaufort, I would like the Carbon Fiber, someone offered to pay for the swap and give me 500$ to do it but I want to make sure the person knows what they are doing at the same time if removing the trim in the dash up top towards the windshield is easy or not. Thanks those look amazing did you or are you doing the install yourself?

First there is no trim that is by the windshield that is included in the commonly accepted trim set. Just on the dash, yes. It is not hard to take off the door trims and the dash trims. The center console and drawer door are much more tricky, but my stereo installer guy knows how to do it.

You just need nylon trim removal tools. If you see a set of trim that is not installed, it will reveal all of the positions of the clips, making it easier to know where to pry.

The Audi C7 OEM carbon fiber did not blow me away. Looks kind of one dimensional dull to me. Ocarbon uses RS pattern carbon, a larger weave and blacker. I like it a lot better, and it is very glossy with clear coat.

I like the Beaufort trims. If I decide I don't like the CF as much once i get them, I will let you know, maybe I will trade you. :-)

On the 7's there is an additional trim piece just under the windshield, so that's where the comments in some threads are coming from.
