Brake pads for the RS5

So I'm in need for brake pads for the RS. I need something that will be good on the street and track. Suggestions? I was suggested Stoptech 309's as a replacement. Along with R8 V10 (2012+) for the front and A6/S6 for the rears.

Since its just you and me, here's what I've found so far:

for track only, Pagid RS29's are awesome pads. But they are expensive. About 500$ for the fronts
For track, carbotech XP8's are good as well. About 260$ for the front. I spoke with carbotech and they said they will be ok for street, but will be noisy and quite dusty. The stock rs5 pads are pretty dusty anyways. They will take a bit to warm up to be effective. I've heard from a vendor (not carbotech) that the xp8's would not be suitable for a heavier car like ours and we should go with XP12.
Also heard the stoptech 309's are comparable to stock, but are also 260$ for the front.

So i'm in the middle right now. Leaning towards the XP8's. Deal with dust + noise (and no brake pad sensor). Give more pedal when driving first thing in the morning (to warm it up). Since I'm in cali, it doesnt get that cold either.

Although my RS5 had ceramics, I used EBC Redstuff on the rears for clean wheels.
I frequently track my 2014 R8 V8 (Supercharged) and I run EBC Yellowstuff. Never any issues with fade. And I push the car hard!

For the fronts, I am running RS29's on the track and Axxis XBG's on the street. You'll be hard-pressed to find pads that work well in both conditions.

The RS29's are perfect for the track, but noisy and dusty - not to mention expensive. You don't want to burn through them on the street. The XBG's are cheap (~$100), low-dusting, no-squeal and come with a wear sensor.

For the rear I use plain OEM pads, although brakes are identical with the ones from the A6/A7/S6/S7. You should be able to use the same aftermarket pads.

Andre, yup. I've bought the RS29's. I might not swap them out for laguna, but I will be carrying them :) Maybe you can teach me how to change them? :) My stock pads still have more than 50%. Getting the brake fluid flushed and replaced with Motul and brakes bled.

Let me know how the ECS rotors work out. I just replaced all 4 rotors with stock ones again.

I agree on the by-pass of the sensor. The Pagid's don't come with sensors either and when you're doing 4-5 track weekends a year, you don't really need the sensors since you're swapping pads before / after every event.

I heard you might need to go higher on the carbotech due to the weight of the car (for the fronts at least).

I am going to try to leave the carbotech on for street and track. I know the 8s will be ok and am hoping the 10 is ok, not too loud. I don't care about dust. If the 10s cannot be street driven or suck at the track I will move to 12 on track and 1521 daily.

ECS tuning who made the front rotors liked the hawks. I decided to go a different route. I think marz was running carbotech and I run them on my Aston vantage. Will let you know what I think next week.

I took them to my after market shop, which happens to be our local Ferrari dealer, and they checked them for me. You can also visibly see grooves on the edges of the rotors which are deep, meaning the pads have dug into the rotors too far to be turned. No cracks and yes the minimum thickness is breached. I will try to take a pic in the sunlight of the edge groove so you can see what I mean.

Hawk pads seem to be preferred around here. I just run my track pads on the street :o

That's supposed to be tough on the rotors. Do you happen to know the part numbers (front and rear?)

Carbotech 1521 compound for street (all four corners), Carbotech XP24 front/XP12 rear for track.

Just got my Centric Posi pads. Great work from Dave at Zeckhausen Racing who just sent me the correct pads for the rears - when I read the instructions that were posted online about how there is a sensor for the rear and one needs a cut out for the senor to go.

Ordered the Carbotech pads today. Manufacturer direct. They seemed very knowledgable and service-oriented. Didn't have the rears in stock but will custom manufacture in about 4 days.

Next question: anybody have a feel for how much life they are getting out of their (iron) RS5 rotors? At 21k on the odo I'm trying to anticipate if I'm going to be stuck for that bill as well as the pads. (no track time on my car... yet)

I have run stoptech 309s (street performance) for several years...

Modest reduction in dust but they are linear and highly heat tolerant, which allows them to survive the occaisional track duty without disintegrating.

On the street, they have proven to be consistent and quiet as well. My choice as Im to lazy to change pads.

If I remember correctly, one of the other benefits of the Carbotechs is you do not have to scrub the rotors to remove the bed-in layer when switching pad sets going from street to track and vice versa.

Never thought it would be so dffcult to buy a set of front brake pads for my 2014 RS5 (steeel rotors) ! Looking for a strictly street pad with wear sensor connector, have talked to Axxis, Zuckhausen and Europarts amd NO ONE could help me. Does any one here have an exact P/N for a street Centric or Axxis front pad set with wear sensor connector? Thanks in advance !

Lots of manufacturers make pads for the RS5, just not Axxis. Ferodo, Akebono, Stoptech, Hawk, Porterfield, Carbotech, Ferodo, Centric, EBC, Girodisc, etc...those are the ones I can name off the top of my head.

Note, the standard iron rotor pads are identical for several models including; 08-17 R8, 07-09 RS4, 03-04 RS6, 13-15 RS5, LAMBORGHINI: 03-05 Gallardo and the new R

Wheel off but I cant see any wear sensor wire coming out of the caliper. Which pad position is the one with the sensor? Upper or lower, inboard or outboard?

If I remember correctly, for a 24 hour pass, it's $39 and you can download each and every workshop manual specific to your car. I can't remember how many there are total but there are separate ones for everything from maintenance, to suspension, transmission, engine, brakes, electronics, etc...They're all in PDF form and you can use them offline. I just store them all in a folder on my laptop's desktop. I'll print them out if needed but I usually just pop the laptop open in the garage.

Must add, I have the passengerside front wheel off and I cant see any sensor wire. Is the sensor only on the driver’s side?

I don’t! I’ve never replaced the pads on mine. I also have the ceramic setup so it’s different on my car.
