Excessive Oil On Oil Filler Cap

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

    2006 A4 Audi 2.0T FSI 2WD.

I know this thread has been used many times, but all I can find is ones blaming the PCV. I recently replaced that with a 034 motorsport catch can, draining the oil to the turbo oil pan.

I also have recently replaced the valve cover and valve cover gasket. My valve cover had turned to junk and had a loose panel, letting a large amount of oil in.

Problem: I noticed an excessive amount of oil around the oil cap and around the valve cover. It had drenched the bottom of it. I know you're not supposed to, but I opened the oil filler while running and it didn't falter at all at idle. No idea why? I hear it is supposed to.

It appears that whatever the problem is continues to ruin the valve cover gasket and leak into the spark well plugs, causing a bad smell.

Even weirder, the car runs great. Boost feels pretty good, but I'm thinking about hooking up a boost to get a reading.

Think it could be related to the Camshaft/HPFP/Cam follower issues?

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Best,

    Mark

i'd consider getting the latest OEM PCV. the whole catch can thing is stupid and very unnecessary.

If how is your catch can routed? Vent to air?

Because it sounds like you basically have no PCV function. Is your idle rough?

The only outward outlet is running to the turbo drain to the oil pan. Otherwise, there are only two hoses going to the valve cover (three total). Is that an issue?

Could you snap a picture? easiest way to visualize what you have going on.

Cam follower issue is unlikely with the symptoms you describe.
Agree with issue lies in PCV system which is not adequately venting the crankcase.
Discontinue the drain to your oil pan and make sure your connections are correctly routed to the rear pcv for evacuation of crankcase pressure
Make sure you empty the can as necessary
I agree with above that a picture would help.

Don't worry about the noise. Took care of that. But still a lot of pressure in the crankcase. Thanks guys!

what does PCV stand for? take everyone else's advice. when that doesn't work, try my advice. i had the same issue, same with huge oil consumption. changed the PCV and voila.

So where can I check on the rear PCV? And how do I go about venting the pressure correctly?

And if the catch can keeps doing this I may go back, but hopefully I can get help and figure it out.
