    Identifying an S-line A4

I'm starting to look for a used A4 and I'm having trouble with how to tell if a car is an S-line or not. Take this car on Autotrader for example. It has the S-line front bumper and rear valence, but the steering wheel doens't have the S-line badge.

Anybody know exactly how to tell from pictures if a car is an S-line for sure?

    Thanks

I would say that IS an S-Line. The steering wheel has 3 spokes on an S-Line and on non it has 4, dosen't have a badge. Everything else looks correct for an S-Line package: Bumpers, lights, side skirts, interior.

There is an interior s-line package and an exterior s-line package. I know on the 2014 models, you could only get s-line interior if you had prestige. Personally, I have the s-line exterior package. The exterior is the bumpers, and the side blades. The interior is the black headliner, flat bottom steering wheel, alcanterra seats, shift knob, and I think floor mats. The three spoke steering wheel is the sport wheel.

All 2012 (and 2014) Premium Plus models come with S-Line Exterior (bumpers, badging) standard.

The car the OP linked is a Premium Plus with Sport pkg. This combo often confuses people for those model years because it combines the S-Line Exterior with the Sport pkg (3 spoke wheel, leather sport seasts, lowered suspension, ect) which creates a car very similar to an S-Line minus a few details.

The "real or full" S-line pkg also includes 19in wheels, Summer tires, Alcantara seats, Black headliner, S-Line steering wheel badging (flat bottom on 2014s), and I believe is only available on the Prestige A4.

Thats weird because it appears to have the S Line chairs in it but they are leather , not Alcantara, which is a 2014 thing.................. Wheel doesnt say S Line.

This is correct. To add a little color to the conversation, I have a 2011 "real" Prestige S-Line car with lowered suspension, sport steering wheel, black headliner, 19" wheels, etc. It was in 2012 that a somewhat watered-down S-Line package was offered on Premium+ models -- this package included only badging and F/R bumpers mainly. This configuration usually didn't have the sport suspension, Alcantara seats, black headliner, or sport steering wheel. The OP's car listing has this type of S-line package but also has the Sport package -- you can tell this because of the lowered suspension, 18" wheels, full-leather sport seats (instead of Alcantara), and the sport steering wheel without S-line badging.

That is what Audi seems to do on the last model year of each body style. IE 2008(B7), 2012(B8), 2014(B8.5)...make the S-Line bumpers and badging optional on Premiums and standard on Premium Plus'.

To me, the black headliner and the Alcantara seats are one of the easier ways to help spot if the car is a true S-line. However, if the car has brown seats, then the headliner will be black regardless if it is a s-line or not.

If your looking to save some money, the 2012 premium plus with the sport package gets you almost all the options and exterior looks you might want in the S-line. The biggest exception would be the 19 inch wheels, but that is easy to remedy with some nice aftermarkets.

The car you linked looks nice and is similar to mine except I have the ibis white and an automatic. Some of the luxuries but not necessities that it is missing are the keyless start, B/O sound and the ADS. If you want to see mine to see if its close enough to an S-line, let me know, I am just down in Littleton. Good luck.

19" wheels are a different package. At least on the 2014's. S-line comes with 18".
But yes, the s-line interior is only available on the Prestige… and so worth it.

    ALCANTARA seats...just look for that.

If they're there its a full S-Line car regardless of model year. If they're not its likely just a sport pkg car that happens to have an S-Line exterior due to the model year.

Thanks all for the information, this just answered a lot for me about my new (to me) '12 S-Line A4 w/ Sport package. I was wondering where the 19" wheels were, but the dealership sold it as a " Premium+ S-Line" - this just solved all those questions!

This looks to me the same as my 2012 A4 P+ minus B&O sounds system and different wheels (I have the 10 spoke).

In 2012 P+ came with the exterior S-Line. You have a Sport Package (gives you sport seats, lower suspension, sport steering wheel), Navigation (gives you matching dashboard colors to your navigation and controls around the shifter). I think that's it. If you would like, I can scan my sticker for you so that you have an idea.

There is something different about an s-line shift knob??

Yeah. If I recall correctly, on auto-knobs it has perforated leather.
