Question about installing IE drop in rods.

My head gasket blew so, while the head is off, I'm thinking about replacing my rods. I'm ok with gapping the rings & honing the cylinders. The only thing I'm not sure about is if the IE rods require any maching? Do I just throw them in with some new oem bearings?

The last time I did this was on a honda where you have different coloured rod bearings for different clearances.

Can anyone with experience in this please chime in??

    Thanks!

Just toss them on. Measure oil clearances, don't touch the rings unless you are replacing them, and don't hone the cylinders either unless you get new rings. Definitely get new bearings.

Thanks for the info. I plan on getting new rings & bearings but, what oil clearances are you talking about?

All of our rods are balanced in sets within +/- 1 gram, machined, and final honed with the included ARP hardware, and quality/measurement checked before final packaging and shipping. You do not have to do any machining whatsoever to the connecting rods. If you are using drop-in rods with OE pistons you will not need to gap the rings as OE rings come pre-gaped (available HERE). We do recommend checking the cylinder hone and re-honing if necessary, make sure you check your piston clearances after performing a hone. Of course checking the bearing clearances with new bearings upon install is always recommended with any engine assembly. All our aftermarket connecting rods use OE tang style bearings (available HERE). We also have complete discount rod install kits including everything you need to perform the install available HERE.
