I comes from a 2008 A6 and I was 100% sure it had TPMS but this one has the rubber valve stems.

...does the c6.5 have TPMS Sensors?

YES they do have TPMS but it is "indirect" .. not "direct"

US has requirements for newly manufactured vehicles

on the c6.5s u should not find many with metal valve stems
u will get dash warnings but u will not get numerical readings

    WIKIPEDIA has a thorough explanation

I was told that they are somehow integrated into the suspension a while back.

    Hmmmm very interesting...

amazing thing is that all my documentation refers to actual sensors inside the tires just like my 2008.

    Thanks for the feedback gents.

Starting in 2009 with the C6, the TPMS warning runs off the ABS system. The premiss being that an under inflated tire will rotate differently then a properly inflated tire. The system reads the rotations of the tires and if there is a variance of "X", then the TPMS system alerts. Now, from experience, this system takes some time to alert (extended rotational difference). I had a blow out on the freeway a couple of years ago and the system didn't alert.

ok so here i thought i didn't have tpms on my c6.5. i had a flat tire on the hwy and no warning lights came on to warm me. i drove about 15km on the hwy before i decided to pull over and check, i knew something was wrong because the car was getting louder and the car just didn't seem to handle right. and long and behold i had a flat rear tire with no warning from the car at all. is there a way to check in your mmi? because i sure don't see any options to check them.

No way the check in the MMI. all you can do is check and set your tire pressure, then go into the TPMS in MMI and "set". Drive the car for about 20 to 30 minutes for the system to fully calibrate and store information; that's all. We have the iTPMS system that does not read it actual tire pressure. Read the information using the link provided by Mig a few posts up.

I have an 09 as well with 2g MMI so it should be there for you. Unless someone disabled it through VCDS.

So, just to clarify...when I buy new wheels for my 2010 S6 I don't need to buy TPMS sensors for them? My 2009 S5 still required the sensors in the wheels.

that should be correct.. if the c6.5 s6 follow the other c6.5s then u dont need sensors.. on top of that i believe if u got sensors u would then also need to get another module and then perform VCDS coding to get everything to work

If your car is not made for United States you may not have TPMS, European Union only started this requirement in 2012. You may want check your Vehicle Code Sticker located at the Spare Tire Well (e.g. 7K7), not sure what the TPMS code for 09's

this code decoder would be helpful >> http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

I'm looking to maybe 2008 S5 wheels, and they guy says he has the TPMS valves already installed, I have a 2010 A6 S-line, do I need the valves and sensors for myself, or would I only get problems? Mig said something about needing a module if I have the sensors....

True the C6.5 has no actual pressure reading, but for me the TPMS works totally as desired off the ABS and differential axle revs. Granted, I had no instantaneous loss of pressure from a blowout, but i did pick up a nail and had a slow leak. Was parked overnight and then in the morning i drove less than 1 mile and got an alert for the left front. Pulled over to be conservative, although i was mostly thinking it was a nuisance alarm. sure enough the left front was low. drove right back home. measured 18 psi.
tire couldn't be repaired, so I bought a new one to match my virgin spare and yes, there is only rubber valve stem--no module on the rim.
The only thing that busts me is i often forget to reset the tire cal after adjusting pressure. That's when i get nuisance alarms.....

Good thread, thanks to those who have given the details. I recently picked up a C6 and a week later the sidewall split on one tire. I put the spare on. Unfortunately, the spare is at the wear bars, and the rest of the tires around 4-5/32nds. TPMS went off. So I checked the tire pressures and they were all at 30 (good job, dealer.) I put them at 40, all around. But now my TPMS gives me a new error - not the one that I need to check my tires - but that there is a problem with a TPMS system.

    Any ideas what causes this?

TPMS from 2009+ is built into the hubs/ABS. So anytime you get new wheels the TPMS might go off, but you just go into your MMI settings and reset the TPMS for the new parameters. The ECU will do the rest of the calibrating for you.

There are no TPMS sensors in the valve stems.

For someone who is new to Audi and the A6, would you mind explaining how to reset the TPMS, I looked around last week but didn't find anything which seemed to be for the tires. I am getting new tires delivered this week and installed shortly after, I would like to know what to do before my car freaks out. Thanks for any help.

Once you get the new tires installed and air'd up to the correct PSI and all, go into the setup window and there should be a option for the TPMS that will allow you to reset it.

Thanks for the info on the thread. I also am new to Audi, and I have an '05 A6 (just learned this makes it a 'C6'). My TPMS warning continues to go off intermittently. I have verified the tire pressure was correct, (even checked the spare before I realized the difference between 'direct' and 'indirect') followed the reset procedures in the little dash computer menu, and it continues to go off. Interestingly, I went to 'rockauto.com', and saw they do in fact list a TPMS system for the 2005 A6 (I know, they are an aftermarket 3rd-party parts source and their database should NOT be treated as Gospel, but...I was curious.

I live in the Seattle area, and a couple months ago, we took a road trip to Whistler BC, and the warning NEVER went off the whole trip, but sometimes it'll go off twice in a 15 min drive to my GF's house.

I don't want to be chasing electronic gremlins.. but I'm not too happy with the intermittent issues. If I were to spring for the Vag-Com unit, could I just turn off the whole TPMS system? (especially since it's an indirect system with no hard data)

    Thanks,
    PE

As stated in the other thread, your 05 has a direct TPMS system with sensors in each wheel. Check all sensors and replace batteries. If that doesn't clear the issue, you can disable the TPMS system with VACCOM.

Thank you Sin! I missed your post correcting that it wasn't till '09 that they went indirect. My bad. Any idea what batteries they take? Do I need to go to a Stealership for this, or can I bring batts to a local tire shop and just pay the labor fee to dismount the tires?
    Thanks,

The batteries are not replaceable. They are built into the sensors. You need to buy new sensors.

    Dammit!!!
Do I need to get Audi sensors, or should I get aftermarket ones? Where would I look (a thread in here? or elsewhere) for where to purchase these sensors? Are there details (specific frequency) that I need to consider?

    Thanks,
