New Toy. 1995 90 quattro Sport

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Picked up a new project, 95 90. I'm leaning towards a 1.8t swap into it(due to price), we'll see what happens. It currently has been swapped to 5 lug, has KW V1 Coilovers, and a few other small goodies.

1.8t engine mounts for the b4 chassis

Set of rs2 headlights on their way from Germany:

    Interior, very clean:

Timing belt change(and some clean up):

Replaced all vac lines under the hood:

Shockingly it has perfect rocker panels, something you hardly see on these older Audis:

From the pictures it looks very clean. If you don't mind me asking, how many miles, and how much did you pick it up for? I'm also looking for a project car myself. Good luck on the build.

I'll give you some insight, its a clean westcoast car over 150 on the chassis. It was my friends car so we worked out a deal. I had sourced him the KW coilovers, and I actually also machined the hubs for the 5 lug swap.

I see rough 90s for 1000 bucks pretty regularly.

Nice pics, yeah I used to own a B5 S4, so I'm looking for another sedan, possibly something similar to yours. In a perfect world it would be a coupe but one could dream lol....

Nice clean example to work with. Looking forward to seeing the progress on your project.
I sold my 90 quattro sport after a successful 2 year search to find my Nogaro 2001.5 B5 S4. Too many cars, not enough time to tend to all, but luckily it went to an enthusiast who continued to keep up with it. Not many 90 quattro left out there.

That is a beautiful coupe though, I know I want something retro that I can take my time restoring and modifying....

If I got another B5 S4, it would have to be a 2001.5. My 2001 was in pretty go shape exterior and interior wise, but started to fall apart. The fuel pump was the last straw for me before I got rid of it. I could have kept it and fixed it which is what I wanted to do but at the time couldn't afford it.

Its good, they are solid cars, i've had several people wanting to buy it, but i don't feel like letting it go yet. It is such a comfortable cruising car, and we do road trips to so-cal pretty often.

I know right..... lol. However the car still ran amazing and the turbo's were still in good shape, but didn't know how much longer they would last. Alongside my mod list I had a maintanence list just as long lol.... But I do miss that car, if I don't get a quattro coupe, or older quattro 5000. I want something retro and pre 90's

Don't worry, I've done plenty of self-loathing that your hate doesn't change a thing. I sold it because i moved to europe, sadly that whole adventure was an absolute bust and kicked my ass in so many ways. You live, you learn.

Well I picked up a donor car:

Super clean 97 A4 1.8t popped up on the local classifieds, went and checked it out, and paid 500 for the car. The whole car was extremely clean, engine looks incredibly clean, It should make a great donor.

And here's the car just waiting for a swap:

Does the 90 have any VAP goodies on it? If so, sell these separately to the 12v crowd. I almost got all of my money back when I parted that stuff out from my '96 A4.

Sadly no. But I've pre-sold stuff off the A4 that pays for the whole thing. Hopefully I can find a local who wants a nice good running 12v with a fresh timing belt.

I love how you guys can recover money on project cars.
Here the demand is so low your'e guaranteed to lose money on every single thing you buy car-related.
Great car, watching this build closely as I've just bought an 89 B3 sedan which I want to stick an S2 20V into.

I stopped by Inegrated Engineering to see if I could find a bolt that suited me, but no dice. I searched around on the interent and found something by ARP that fit the bill, its made for a v8 Ford, but correct length and size, and pitch...
and only about 40 bucks shipped

Installed the makeshift pilot bearing, there is a thread about converting from auto to manual, and they shaved the crank down, i did not modify the crank in anyway, my flywheel has a larger center section that allowed for it to simply be cradled inside of it.

    Engine resting on its mounts

Lots of front end realestate, need to find a small intercooler now...

Alright, I'm working on the wiring, here is what i have labeled:

Alright so now these are switched power things that i need to hook up through fuses. I'm trying to find a wiring diagram that shows the 90 connections to see what i can integrate from the stock harness:

Starter trigger (that one isn't switched, but i need to figure out where it comes from)
Fuel pump relay (again that one i dont think is switched)
Coil packs (15A and switched for sure)
Power for O2 sensors and MAF (15A and switched)
    Injector power (10A and switched)

I believe these ones are all for integration on the internal side of things (for instrument stuff):

    Leak Detection pump
Read switch for LDP (not sure about these first two and how they integrate into the stock EVAP controls)
    Coolant Temp Switch
    Alternator Warning
Oil Pressure (I'm assuming this one is also a "warning" for the autocheck)
    Vehicle speed Sensor
Vehicle speed SIGNAL (these two confuse me, i'm assuming one is for the speedo, not sure what the other does)
RPM Tach (that one is pretty obvious, anyway to make my 90 V6 tach work with a 4CYL?)

Did a bit of work, more cleaning and getting things prepped under the hood. I found out the donor car actually has a k04 turbo which is a nice surprise

And i found out that the ac stuff should line up very very well.

stock b5 a4 lines to the 90 ac bits

Got the downpipe mocked up, and a friend is doing the final welding on it

Same friend sold me a european Audi S2 airbox, It is made for this chassis, and is therefor a perfect fit. I adapted the smaller 1.8t MAF to fit the inlet and everything ties in very nicely:
