What's this warning light mean? ("BRAKES!" but not your typical low pads warning)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i'll say upfront that i know my pads are low and that I've been waiting for the warning light to go off before i change them, however the lights I've been seeing recently aren't what i expected to see for low pads, now are they in the manual at all.
I've done some google and forum searches to no avail....

    So here's the details

Like i said, i know my pads are low, but the light i expected to see for low pads is this, or similar (not my pic):

Initially i had my "BRAKE" light (as in the light that goes on when you put the e-brake on, the small red one) blink a few times with an audible chime dinging as it blinked on two separate occasions around Christmas time while i was driving (in pretty cold weather, i think this may end up being relevant). according to the owners manual this could be a low fluid/old fluid issue, but since i knew my pads were low i wasn't too concerned about a possible low fluid level know that the two could be related.

....still haven't gotten a low pad warning though

now in the past week i've gotten this a few times. it's a large "BRAKES!" in the center of the display that blinks in alternating fashion with the typical "BRAKE" light that's associated with the e-brake with an audible chime that dings away while they're blinking. they blink/ding for um,maybe 30secs then they stop and go away until a few days later.
not suer if it's relevant, but i do seem to notice a correlation with untypically cold temperatures. it may be coincidence, but i thought it worth mentioning

manual isn't any help, i've been coming up blank on google and some forum searches so i'm hoping someone here knows what this is

Did you check your brake fluid yet?

It's probably a combo of low brake fluid and worn brake pads. You can check both visually in a matter of seconds.

I'm thinking that prior to the rotors wearing through the wires in the pads, you were probably a little low on brake fluid for one reason or another. Now that the pads are worn quite a bit, the piston has to push out further than normal, so the fluid in the reservoir is lower than what it would be with new/less worn pads.

    I could be completely wrong.

The ebrake / "BRAKE" light by itself seemed to indicate a fluid issue from my interpretations if the manual, the addition of the additional giant red icon with the exclamation mark in my center display I would think indicates something else but I can't find any resource that says what it is

You got me. Because I have a warning light that I've never seen before clearly I take "shit care of my car"
Or maybe it's because I wait for my brake pads to hit the sensors before changing them that makes you think that, I'm not sure. Brace yourself for this though... I also wait until the TP roll gets down to the cardboard before changing it ragging than throwing perfectly good tp into the trash by changing the roll early.

I've driven and maintained my own audis longer than you've probably been driving period. And audizine sure is living up to its reputation here.

    I LOL'ed

but i dont agree about the " Light on helpful and knowledgeable adults." Dont jump in the curtains for one sacarstic post. The firs pic show 3 problem lights, even if it's not your pic, maybe it lead to misinterpretations.

There may also be a difference between red and color DICs when it comes to brake warnings. Flush and refill the fluid and replace pads/rotors and call in the morning if symptoms don't improve.

Exactly. Just think, if you got poop on the palm of your hand would you wipe it with a dry tissue and go about your day? (hopefully not, lol) You would wash your hands, right? Same principal here. ;)
