    #== Wheel Stud Conversion :: 14X1.5 to 12X1.5 ==#

    marked001 and have been in the hunt for a wheel stud conversion kit for some time now. Ideally we would like to find 14X1.5 conversion studs and BLACK open ended lug nuts. Unfortunately, black/open ended 14X1.5 lug nuts are impossible to find. However, since the tuner market is so huge, black/open ended 12X1.5 lugs are everywhere.

    Has anyone done the 14X1.5 to 12X1.5 stud conversion? Is this recommended? Seems like you wouldn't want to go down in stud size for fear of them shearing off? They do make wheel studs that step down from 14 to 12, so maybe it's OK?

    Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

    yeah, the shortest stud H&R sells is 40mm... too long for a closed ended lug because the threads will extend way past a closed ended lug - so obviously the lugs won't seat. The biggest challange is finding a black lug nut at 14X1.5

    much easier to swap wheels for track events several times per year along with the 'umptine' times I do work on my car for performance upgrades. less weight too(although I realize were talking ounces per wheel)

    I run 17's on the track (smallest I can run with my brake setup) and 18's on the streets. Again, it's not so much about weight, but more about changeability ease.

    12mm should be fine. Thats what all BMWs Minis a lot of mercedes and Porsche use. So it should be plenty strong enough. You would probably need bushings for the wheels though wouldn't you?

    Or you could buy a sweet stainless wheel guide and forget the stud conversion hehe
