I am looking for ideas for something stealthy for my iphone 5 that puts it higher than in front of the shifter where I have it now.

    I use this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It actually mounts anywhere on the dash just fine. I have it right about the air vents on the dash, and the suction holds just fine.

I grabbed a non-rotating vent mount on eBay.

Thinking a good alternative would be horizontally on the belt line trim by the fog light switches might be good.

I got an old fog light switch and glued a garmin ball to it (ditched the double sticky tape)

    Then iphone 4 cradle.

    http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/gn010.htm

    http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/cc005-sbh.htm

Then i can remove the non used switch (on the fly) and install my garmin ball, then cradle. During my normal day to day driving i remove the ball and reinstall the switch fake.

I just got the iphone 5 and ill i did was just the iphone 4 mount and extened it 4 mm or so with some more plastic and rivites.

I might switch the whole design to RAM ball some day.... Also did the same switch trick in my MK2 golf.

It can rotate and you can use your vent to tilt it up and down or swivel left or right

I used a Brodit/Proclip USA bracket and a universal iOttie mount that I hacked the suction off of and screwed to it. It rotates, I do like the look of the Aduro mount and may mod that one to the bracket if it ever wears out. I like the Brodit clip requires no cutting and doesn't hang on the vents, it can be moved left and right to suit.

Kind of on topic as I've been considering a mount, but does anyone have issues with getting a good GPS signal inside your car? I'm with Verizon(Galaxy S3) and the occasional times I need to use GPS, I end up usually propping my phone up in the cupholder somewhere. If I have it in my lap/passenger seat/shifter area, the signal goes in and out.

I don't use GPS enough for this to really annoy me, just wondering if anyone else has this happen.

i just picked one up and put it in my b5. i like it. are your vents strong enough to the point where they can hold the weight without rolling down? or do you put something to jam it from moving?

im using a quarter right now, but ill prob make a small CF wrapped piece to use as not to scratch the vents.

Same phone, and I've never had a problem with GPS. Usually locks in less than a couple seconds. Do a search on screw tightening and see if that helps your GPS issues.

Mine are pretty strong and I'm not doing anything to reinforce it... But I'm a little concerned about how it will hold up in the long run. Definitely post pics of what you put in there I would love to see it!

That's pretty cool. I've always wondered if anyone made one of these. More useful for us would be a cassette slot mount.

    they actually make that too.

ion is coming out with a bluetooth cassette deck, someone posted about it in the b6 forum i think. anyway, im sure it will have its limitations like charging it, but thats a pretty cheap and effective way for a decent interface. ill be giving it a shot when its available

i just stick it in the coin slot / cup holder area, then fish it out from under the seats every time I see a fun corner. Sorry, no pic available, but it's a pretty common build.

That's also pretty cool. Doesn't work for us Android users though. I wouldn't mind just a device mount that utilized the cassette slot.

There was a guy in the classifieds last week that made a ipad mini mount using the radio keys slots, a pretty good idea.

I just got the Neutron S mount from http://www.bungajungle.com/. It's a magnetic mount. Overall pretty happy with it:

    Pros:
    1) Really strong hold (when there is direct contact with magnets and metal disc).
    2) Small size, discrete
    3) Inexpensive ($20)

    Cons:
    1) Anodized aluminum already scratched a bit
    2) Magnetic hold did not work through my case, had to cut a hole in my case.

I cut a hole in my Speck Candyshell for the metal disc. It turned out really well, and is perfectly flush.
