    Phone Mount?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone have a phone mount for their car?
Normally I use mounts from ProClip but I don't like what they have for the B8. Not a fan of vent mounts. I need every bit of AC here in Houston.
ProClip also has an alternative mount but I'm not sure if I'm sold on it.
    http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard-..._leftorright=0

Then there is this leather covered Kuda mount.
    http://www.kudausa.com/audi-a4s4-b8-...ack-a1305.html
I could attach my ProClip iPhone cradle to it.

Panavise has a solution too, but I would need to buy a new iPhone cradle and I like how the cradle from ProClip has the integrated lightening cable.

Curious what others are using for their phones.
For now I've been placing it in the cup holder or the narrow storage area to the left of the cup holders but neither is ideal.

I like this Kensington Quick-Release Car Mount:

Easy to attach, easy to reach, easy to remove, it's secure, and it can be flipped vertical to horizontal. Works great for my iPhone 4!

I also got one of these for Bluetooth music streaming:

I use the iOttie SmartTap holder for my gs3. I like the easy snap-in process. The suction cup is really good and very feels firmly attached. If you wanna move the holder to another spot you simply wash the suction side with water and it mount it.

I pulled the trigger on that ProClip mount you're not sold on -- haven't received it yet, so no good review or pics. I went that route after seeing a similar mount in the local shop's Golf R. I was pretty impressed with how sturdy it was without being permanently attached to the dash.

/I know that's not very helpful

Well, actually that is a big help... if you'll post some pics of it installed and give your thoughts on it.

I posted in the S4 forum, but I'll repost here as it's more appropriate for the thread. Note the photos still show the clear film on the proclip and the back of my phone as I have not finalized the position of the mount and the film makes it easier to removal.

If you mount in the center, none of the vents are blocked.

My current mount uses a proclip vent mount, a garmin ball and an arkon slim tab adapter socket. it allows for rotation of my iphone at any angle and quick removal/install. a "slim tab" is used on the back of the phone for mounting. i plan on using this mount for the mobile VCDS app once it's available in Jan. 2014.

proclip vent mount, garmin ball, arkon slim tab garmin socket head:

arkon slim tab mount on phone that slides into the garmin socket head:

phone partly slid in the socket head:

    V1 connection app:

if you don't need infinite multiple angle rotation, the quadlock mount works as well. it mounts flat but can be rotated 90 degrees for portrait/landscape. i'll likely switch to this system since i use it to mount on my bike as well.

    Phone Mount?

Have a look at the IOmounts sold by Proclip....they're slick. I've recently changed mine to that style.

It's easy to spend a fortune on these things and have a drawer full of them! I had been using an iOttie with Smart Tap mounted on the flat part of the MMI display pod. I was able to angle it so that none of my view of the screen was blocked but the passenger view was really cut down. I do not like mounting anything on the dash so this was the best solution. The pros of this mount and location was that it was not on my dash, it gave me a great view of my phone, it was really the only flat surface to mount on, and the Smart Tap feature is excellent for easy in and out of the phone. The cons: It blocked the MMI screen for the passenger, it is a pretty chunky unit, and it was subject to vibration on certain pavement where my phone would even flip orientation from portrait to landscape.

I have since gotten a Kenu Airframe. I am usually not a fan of vent mounts because they are not always the most secure and I also live in a hot climate and need maximum venting but I also did not want excess clutter. We don't have a ton of dash real estate in our cars anyway. The Airframe is super minimalist and works very well. It holds my iPhone 5 in a Magpul Field Case very well. I'll see how my AC is affected come summer time but for now, I love the clean and simple look and function of the Airframe. Plus, it's only $25 and is an easy one-handed operation.

I'm going through a boatload of hassle right now trying to get this to work with my Android. I am using the red band ipod cable which powers the tune2air device, but does not show up as a supported AMI device; and using an older ipod cord, the AMI device shows as no device connected but does not power the unit.

I'd be wary about anything that clips to the vent. Over time these plastic blades get brittle and eventually will snap after repeated pressure/weight. This happened with my previous Lexus.

i use the phone mount from verizon, holds most phones and is so easy to use, and nice too. it's the air vent mount, fits and holds great, also very easy to use you can mount and unmount a phone with one hand in like 1 second.

Installed my ProClip today. Overall pretty happy with it and like that it doesn't block any AC vents.

Sorry for the quick pic - had to use my phone to actually take the pic. If anyone wants to see what the clip looks like with the phone in let me know and I'll snap some more.....

The ProClip mount has two adhesive strips and a long edge clip that slides in between the dash and ac/media components. I just installed mine. It's quite secure w/out any dash damage (screw holes).

The only thing that bothers me about that pro clip mount and the reason i said originally that I wasn't completely sold on it, is the triangular support. I know it's there for a reason, but it looks like a major dust collector. I know I'll constantly be wanting to clean the gunk out of the corner of it.

Can you mount the pro-clip a bit higher, near the vents or is it shaped to only go in the one spot beside the media controls?
