Issues with Bluetooth connection to MMI

[SOLVED] - Make sure your phone is in "discovererable" mode so it can pair with other bluetooth devices like MMI! It's in your phone's bluetooth settings and the default time is usually around 60-120 seconds before it turns back to non-discoverable (for security reasons)

    So the strangest thing happened,

I have an HTC Rezound by Verizon Wireless that I connected to my 2011 S4 when I was leaving the dealership, had no issues and it has worked flawlessly for the past ~5 months.

Fast forward to one drunken night that led to me losing my phone during a barcrawl, ordering the same phone the very next day (had insurance), and trying to connect it to the MMI using the "Search for phone" after deleting the old bluetooth connection that was saved.

Yes the bluetooth was set to ON with my new phone. I have tried restarting the phone with it on while the car was on or off in every combination. I was in park while trying to make these changes.

The strangest part is, 2 days later my phone turns up in an odd sequence of events... and trying to reconnect that one to the MMI system with no success which makes absolutely no sense to me

    Any similar experiences out there?

you probably need to enter in the new MMI pin into the bluetooth connection on your phone. it should then connect.

Make the connection from the phone to the MMI, not the other way around. You'll be asked to enter a pin on the MMI (pick one) and then confirm that pin on the phone.

I'm hitting the "Search for new phones" and nothing is happening on the phone and it's saying that it did not find any phones in the area. Meanwhile I was able to connect my roommate's iPhone without any issues.

You need to go into Bluetooth on the phone. Bluetooth devices aren't always in "discoverable" mode all the time. Go into Bluetooth and tell it to add a new pairing. This shouldn't be this hard. Perhaps Android is too complex?

Is your phone set to Bluetooth discoverable (not the same as Bluetooth just being 'on') ? Usually 'Discoverable' is off by default for security reasons. You can turn it on in the phone's menu somewhere (then turn Discoverable off when finished pairing; some phones will automatically turn it off.)

But yeah I'm pretty sure you can do it the other way too, i.e. initiate the pairing from the phone and it will "find" the Audi MMI.
