    RS7 Air Intake

Has anyone thought about swapping the OEM S6/S7 air intake with the OEM RS7 version? They look very similar since located in same area and both are single intake versus the S8.

Looks like it may not need much modification to fit, and I would imagine the RS7 version would allow better airflow.

    Just a though

if you gain anything off of this or an aftermarket solution, the gains are going to be minimal. you do get a cool sound from the USP one some people put on, but if you want power go APR

Not worried about gaining, more focused on motor running more efficient if this allows more cold air. May be a simple solution for a better air box since the RS7 is out and its still and OEM part.

Over this weekend I will be able to look at and RS7 air box and see if its a simple swap.

I test drove a RS7 today, its intake sound was noticeably more impressive than on my S7. I would be interested in this mod if its easy enough.

Where in Denver did they have a RS7 available for test drives?

Its mostly just because of the holes in the airbox on top there, anyone can do that with a blade/dremel and a steady hand.

Based on our research and having my Audi Shop guru examine both parts they work the same. Only difference are the holes on the top (inside of box are basically identical when cross referencing all models). S6/S7/RS7/RS6 share the basic same air box with the S8 having the dual air intake setup. No real power or performance gained.

Now, once you eliminate your downpipes on both S6/S7 platforms, you have a much more noticeable exhaust note over the RS7 factory exhaust. I think the stock exhaust is perfect from factory, and just adding cast pipes to the equation creates perfect harmony. Much more aggressive then OEM S6/S7 but still staying true to Audi engineering that these are luxury family sedans (4DR & 5DR).

IF you want a track monster that sounds like a raped ape at WOT or at start up, then you need another car. That is why I have a dedicated track car that I can run all day at 6K rpms with strengthen internals, block work and more

Having said that, took my Audi to its first 2 Day Track event and it performed flawless. For a 4000 pound sled it was surprisingly nimble (defied physics )and made many look twice as it handled the twists and how it slid out of corners (traction control off). The car was stock other then 93 APR tune and Stasis Sway Rears! The car was always planted and predictable (a good thing when on a track). I hung with many fast cars, reaching about 150mph on the straights. The stock brakes on these cars are simply phenomenal and work VERY WELL. Absolutely no brake fade (I was on the brakes hard), when others were experiencing brake fade or loss of brakes.

The brakes on the second day with the ambient temps being much cooler made perfect lil furnaces as they were crackling and popping as being part of a music recital. Would suggest that every owner of these cars experience a HPDE. You will walk away with such a renewed admiration for owning this incredible vehicle and truly understand what a privilege it is to have a DD like this.

Many may realize that why change or mod this car dramatically if you will never push it beyond 75% of its limits. I would recommend the sway bar as it did reduce body roll which was evident on the track, but also will enhance your DD experience. My good buddy with a new RS7 believe it has the same crappy rear OEM sway as the S6/S7. He already did the it upgrade.

    Cheers

So moral of the story is you did not change your air box but you did throw some downpipes on there?

How much did you gain from downpipes?

    Right?

Not as bad as the other day, when I saw an 2004 A4 Badged up as an RS6. Just had to shake my head. Like spray painting "Corvette" on an Impala

Guys, It's obviously the RS6 grill on a S6. As far as I know it's kinda a pain to replace the badge.

haha, that was me. OP you gave me the most confusing morning ever going to work today. I was at a light and saw you coming from a distance. I saw the grill from far away and thought it was a RS7 and got really excited. As you got closer I could tell something was off because I realized it wasn't a fastback, then I saw the badge on the grill said 6 and not 7. Then my mind went in a million directions. Holy shit a C7 RS6? they don't even offer them in the US what is this? Wait... they only come in avant even in Germany. WHAT IS THIS THING. The grill, lights, valance, exhaust, badges... EVERYTHING looked like it rolled of the factory floor in Ingolstadt.

I didn't see any of your posts before this, well done man that thing is perfect.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Fast4DR S6 posted some good pictures in the first post. Wouldn't the vent at the back of the RS7 filter box, lower the filter box pressure at high speeds and reduce performance. I saw an S6 picture the other day and someone had drilled some holes in the same place in an S6 filter box. With a tune could this be beneficial or have the reverse effect?

Going through this now with my S7. I was going to purchase an open air intake system and my shop said it would cause problems. He said that they had done dyno tests on similar products and that enclosed systems are the only way to make power. He said that the ECU reduced output to protect the engine when it sees the intake temp get too high. Cutting holes in the box would likely help with the sound without too much increase in temp, but the more you open the better chance of getting temps that your car wouldn't want to see. Probably a lesser issue in cooler climates, but here in AZ I'm not willing to chance it.

Thanks for posting, CR8LUCK. I'm starting to think it serves two purposes. It allows a continuous flow of air through the filter box, which keeps it cooler and secondly it allows more induction noise to be heard. The latter is probably why they don't do it on the S6/7, but for those that want more induction noise, putting some holes in that area, with a circle cutter or dremel, could be a good mod. A foil or mylar label could be put over the holes, to restore it to stock.
