    C6 Key Fob Battery Replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My key fob battery has died...

Is it true you have to purchase the replacement battery from the Audi dealership?

It is it a fairly easy DIY job to take it apart and replace?

You don't have to do anything special, open up the fob, take the battery out, go to CVS and get the same battery, replace.

I recently replaced the battery in one of my key fobs. Initially thought of going to dealership but got this off eBay.

You don't have to go to the dealership to get one. But it's not a bad idea to try there first. Last time I went I got a free battery . Your mileage may vary though.

    yep.. 2032

had it at the Walgreens down the street. it was wayyyy easier than I was expecting, the cover pops off using a butter knife and you just plug the new battery on and clip it back on

The reason some people might think you need to go to the dealer is that the old audi keys (my Bro's b5) lost their coding for the car if you didn't replace the battery within like 10 seconds of removing the old one. Not impossible but if you take too long the key would need to be recoded.

All of that above is hearsay so feel free to call me out if it's wrong.

I would never go to the dealer unless I have to. I was just saying that when I went there for a warranty inquiry I asked them about the battery light that had popped up on the cluster screen and they said it was the key battery and they took my key and put a new battery in it gratis. Obviously not every dealer will give you one but when you live 5 minutes from one, it doesn't hurt to ask.
