Who has a permanent fix for frozen doors??

    - Driver door won't open from the outside.

    - Passenger door opens and then won't shut.

It's cold. I know it's a common problem. Who has a permanent fix for it? Don't tell me to try the handle a few times or mess with the latching mechanism. I can assure you, I already have.

I've used 1z Gummi Pflege in the past, which seems to help.

I know my other car has the garage bay, and I dont dare kick the wife out of hers.... I have takin WD40 on a rag and dressed the door seals. WD is a water repelant so it helps keep the frost off the seals, which is what sticks for me.

There is a silicon lubricant that you can put in the door seals much better than WD40.

you can find it at home depot and lowes easily.

The internals are freezing up right? You pull on the handle and nothing happens or you get it opened and then it won't latch shut.? X2 on the WD-40. Try to spray it clean first though with some brake clean or something. I don't miss those days for sure.

I ripped the handle off my 94 corolla's frozen shut door yesterday. It was actually really funny. It's a POS to look at, but never dies. Wish I could say the same about my S4 .

Man I feel you with this!!! This past week I left my laptop in the car after scanning for codes/messing around with logging the car. Went out around 11pm to grab it, since I didn't want it in the car overnight. The door would unlatch a bit, enough for the interior lights to come up but I could not get it open for the life of me, after five minutes of cursing this dreaded winter season I gave up before the busted the handle. I of course could not try my passenger door because my central locking pump is busted so I am only able to unlock my drivers door via the key. The next day I used poured a bunch of hot water in the door jams and it opened up no problem and thankfully my laptop is fine.

I am now leaving my pass door unlocked so I have two doors I can try and also am going to coat the rubber weatherstripping with some type of silicone lube as mentioned already. I have heard WD-40 works ok or Vasolene but that is too messy for me. Funny I never had this problem with my B6 hahaha.

BTW if you think the doors are bad try pushing that trunk button in when its frozen shut! I always leave my rear seats unlocked in case I need to fold them down and get back there.

Do you have a functioning remote? Roll windows down with remote and then pull on the door sill...don't pull hard on handles.

Find out how water is getting in there...some seal must not be sealing well. I've found my driver side iced up and I opened my rear door much easier.

This is, by far, the most helpful AZ has been to date.

Just to clarify, the doors themselves aren't frozen shut. On the DS, I can pull on the handle but nothing happens. On the PS, you can open from the outside, but when you try to close it, it doesn't stay shut.

I know water gets in the door sills and then freezes when it's cold out, but I'm going to try WD/silicone/graphite/ and whatever that German stuff is until it starts working again.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_213197-39963...ductId=1059839 TEFLON product in the door lock and on the latches. Use wd-40 only to clean the locks, it is a cleaner not really a lube, never use on rubber.

WD 40 is water based so that's a no go, the same reason guns will rust when treated with it.

You need a non water based lubricant

Lol where did you ever hear that?!?! It's not water based. Wiki my friend. Look it up.
WD-40 stands for "water displacement". Spray it in your distributer cap if it ever gets moisture in it. Yea you don't use it in guns cause there is special oil for guns. There isn't a drop of water in its chemical make up.

Lol you are quoting Wiki ?

Treat steel with and expose it to the elements and it will rust....pour it in a cup and let it sit ... It will evaporate.....Up here in AK it will freeze if left outside in the winter....... It is water based

You have no clue what your talking about. You put any lubricant on steel and leave it out it will rust. Gas evaporates as well. Do you put 93 octane H20 in your car? I have never seen it freeze. Only get a little gummy. You might have an environment like the moon up in AK though.
