Diy: Restore leather seats with iron

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello members! I will not put any pics since this is very simple to do and thank me later =]

I did it to my car an was really amazed at the results. anyways the things you need are

    1.Iron with steamer works best
2.100% cotton shirt if it's not this you will damaged your leather!
    3.patience
    4.A beer

Now turn the iron to the hottest setting, then put the T-shirt in top of the leather where it has wrinkles, saggy,or cracks, then just iron the shirt an put pressure on it and steam it at the same time, keep the iron moving don't leave it in one place it will burn the leather an you would be screwd. I did it to my drivers seat which was really saggy and the heat stretches thr leather leaving it to it's original form like new. I did it on my friends lexus is350 and came out perfect. Anyone doing this an is successful please comment and remember I am not responsible for damaged leather or burning yourself thank you an ENJOY

if your leather is saggy, why would you want to stretch the leather more?

Have heard of using iron on leather with the above method described to get rid of an indent etc. However not for cracks or saggy leather.

i am assuming the steam moistens the leather, and the heat evaporates the water quickly taking some of the moisture in the leather out and firms the leather back up. I would be worried about it cracking afterward because the less moisture in leather, the more prone to cracking. That's the only way I can get my head around the leather 'shrinking' if so, I would imagine that quickly after your ironing you would want to condition the leather with a solution or something.

Shick- I was thinking the same thing. I would definitely apply a quality leather conditioner/moisturizer after doing this. My recaro's must have been owned by a heavyset guy or lady with some massive hips lol, and there are some heavy creases on the driver seat cushion that I need to address.

I'm going to steam them, then hit them with cleaner, then a healthy dose of conditioner and let it soak it up.

Guy in the link states that most auto leather is protected by a polyurethane and therefore not able to make use of a conditioner. Won't penetrate through apparently.

Is Audi leather like this? What would be the use of leatherique products which are so well regarded?

I remember hearing about using a heat gun to repair leather a while back. The iron trick might seem to work a bit better by eliminating the constant stretching that was shown in the video. Great tip!

On a side note...of all the Audi's I have owned, all have had blk leather interior and I have to say, they must have some tough cows in Germany because my seats, even after 220K miles on my old Audi 90 and 135k on my A4, the seats STILL look amazing! Far better than my buddies with 5-7 yr old Benz's.

^^Correct me if im wrong but I think 1.8T/2.0T have vinyl bolsters and 3.0/3.2 have leather bolsters.

I the technique I'll be trying is the heat gun technique. I'll update.

^^The vinyl bolsters could have a lot to do with them wearing so well. Vinyl is just another name for one legged baby cows in the Motherland, so its all leather in my eyes. LOL!

Turn on the seat warmers on blast & apply leatherique Oil followed by leatherique prestine clean.
Give yourself a day cause this stuff can get nasty but works great!

& for maintainng them, It'll keep the nasty oils out of the seat & keep them nice matte looking & soft feeling.

I was too curious so I tested the heatgun technique on my lunch break.

Started with an indentation where the upper back seat meets the lower back seat meaning you dont see it when installed just to make sure if it didnt work that it woulnt show. Well it worked but since its time consuming I tried an indentation in the middle of the rear seat. Didnt have much time since I also had to eat on my break but here is the result after 15-20 minutes of working on it:

Will update as soon as I'm pleased with the results.
