Question about a hose that connects to the Intake Manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There is a hose that connects to the intake manifold on the side kind of by the throttle body.
It has like an internal valve or something in there.
    Mine seems to collapse often.
I was wondering if i could replace that hose with just a normal hose or will it mess something up.

I am sorry for the noob question, but it's the holiday and Audi Dealer ship is not open today : /. So i need a temp fix till Monday.

Read through this, find the diagram that goes with your car, there are some year to year changes so I don't want to speculate which hose it actually is. For most, a piece of heater hose or silicon hose of the same caliper is fine.

Skip ahead to post 311 (page 8) in that link and I'm I'm pretty sure you'll find your part and part number you need in diagram #2.

Can you identify which hose you are referring to? If you have a broken check valve or torn vacuum line, yes, you can simply replace it. Nothing 'special' is needed.

    Could be 15 or 10.
On my car it is internal though. So i was wondering seeing the intake manifold sucks air in, would it be safe to just replace it with a normal hose and leave the internal valve out?

I have the SAI delete so mine all looks way different O_o

It's would be best to first identify which hose is ' collapsing'. What did your 'delete' consist if?

    Post a pic.

Ya, I have the United Motor Sports stage2+ Upgrade and I think it just collapsed out of no where. If I can just put any hose there I will.
But maybe I have to have that check valve in there/

You don't need no special hose, since it's easily accessible for me, I use an aeroquip -8an fuel line but I'm pretty sure you can use some other sort of line.

This one has some kind of internal valve or something. I am trying to figure out if I can replace that with any house and leave the valve out.

That top picture, to me, looks like the PCV in the center of the picture. Bear with me here...does the big plastic piece in the middle have one larger line on it that runs up to the back of the crank case, with another larger line coming out shaped like an elbow and running into your oil filter housing? And then there is a smaller diameter hose running from the plastic piece up to the top of the crank case, with one other remaining line (the one in question) running out of the plastic piece and up into your intake manifold?

In other words, does the hose you're talking about come off the manifold and run down underneith it into a somewhat T shaped plastic piece (PCV) that has two hoses from it running up into the crank case in some fashion or another, and one hose running down into the oil filter housing?

OK, as I look at your picture again I agree even more, you can see the oil filter housing in the top right corner, I was confused by the orientation. I had to replace my PCV not long ago. That hose you have the clamp circled in red for is simply a hose, there is no valve inside, everything like that is within that plastic piece, the PCV, which is separate. I'm not sure if you had to remove your manifold or throttle body for that picture, but I would recommend removing your throttle body and the throttle body hose in order to get good access to the hose you are having the issue with for reasons I'll explain below. Plus those two things take a few seconds to remove.

I'm just going to say be very careful pulling that hose off the PCV once you get the hose clamp off, I recommend using needle nose pliers to push the two clamp ends together enough to slide it up the tube towards the manifold end and off the PCV, then try pulling it off. When you put the new hose on, just use a re-useable clamp. Everything is likely to be brittle, so be careful not to snap off the elbow that goes down into the oil filter housing when you're pulling on everything. Looks like you, or someone, has been in there before though since those reusable hose clamps are not what is normally on those connections. If you have trouble, use the link I sent you above in the second post, as well as searching for DIY's for fuel rail and throttle body removal if you decide to take out the PCV and the hoses connected to it as one unit, then take it apart to replace that one hose, but I think you should be able to get your hands in there far enough for that one hose. I'd be trying to hold the PCV steady with one hand, while pulling and rotating your problem hose to break the seal and get it off. I had everything out when I did mine and it was still difficult to remove. As was stated above though, just use a similar diameter hose of some sort.

I can reach it quite easily, also there is something in the hose. You can look inside and see some type of metal thing inside.
Also it's been removed before seeing i just changed my head gasket and had some head work done.
Also the pic was from above the manifold :) nothing removed the SAI Delete is amazing :)

All that hose does is connect the PCV valve to the intake manifold to provide vacuum to the PCV. There shouldn't be anything in the hose. If you found a small metal disc in the hose it probably came from the PCV valve (the metering disc). If so, you need a new PCV valve.

Didn't realize you were actually seeing something inside and already had it removed. Not much else could be in there besides what old guy said. Try taking off your oil cap with the car idling. Suction?
