how much better is c7 a6 compared with c6 a6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    both 3.0T
    310hp vs 300 hp
    torque 325 vs 310
    less overhang, less understeer
    drive select
    80lbs lighter
crown gear center diff instead of torsen

for those who have driven c6 and c7 for a long enuf time, how much is c7 better on all the regards?

should i pull trigger on 2011 a6 which are abundant on market now off lease or should I wait a year to get a 2012 a6, I am not in a big hurry.

test drove didn't show me much because of the short duration.

    Thanks friends.

the engines are the same, but to me the interior in the c7 is so much better and more modern. the c6 interior is old fashion long ago. i would get the c7

Probably best to post this question in the C7 forum. They are the ones to havbe most likely considered both before buying their C7. Everyone that ownes a C6 is going to tell you that the C6 is better. Kinda like asking Green Bay packer fans if their team is better than "Da Bears".

a new gen is not always better. Also if c7 is only 5% better I'd still get a 2011 c6 this year instead wait till next year to get a 2012 c7.

when i think of the differences...this is what comes to mind quickly
    *may add more later

c6 .. will be bang for buck ... i cant believe a car i spotted online last night amazing off lease deals
c6 .. if reliability is a high priority * 1st and 2nd year models are more likely to have issues and some people r just more bothered by that
    (i came from a 2005 and went to a 2011)
    c6 .. if u like a more traditional rounded look/styling
c7.. if u like more futuristic edgy styling
    c7 .. if technology is a priority
    c7 .. superior interior styling
c7 .. seats are awesome... the c6 seats are not lame but sub par
    c7 ... higher grade ride

Thanks for the detailed difference. I agree on most. Most important to me: how about handling?

Handling can be modified on either car as long as you DONT get air-ride. Coils/springs and sway bars make huge difference.

Very nice to know! I think A6s in the states usually don't have air suspension. How about handling comparison of c6/c7 stock form?

I've driven both in the 3.0T and I have to say that they handle about the same. If I had to give an edge to one of them I would give it to the C6. It just feels more stable.

I too have been toying the idea of upping to the C7 A6/A7, but I want one that's CPO full LEDs and none of those are in my budget right now.

An ECU tune will make the power a 'moot point.'

The interior is a little better in the C7

The weight reduction is arbitrary as well. If you look at the different packages, some are heavier or lighter. Some Premium+ C6.5's are lighter than C7 Prestige depending on the year. (I did a LOT of googllng to confirm this LOL)

As far as the exterior-aesthetics... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I DO prefer the angry, sleek headlights of the C7... That's why I bought angry eyelids for my C6.5

That is a matter of opinion. The one thing I don't like about the new generation Audis is that the B8.5 looks like the C7 looks like the A8. That is why, if I ever decide to buy a new gerneration Audi, it will be the A5/S5 or the A7.

I prefer the rear of thr C6.5 vs C7, but the front is more aggresive on the C7, but only with full LED.
C7 has the new S Tronic transmission, interior and tech, but still very expensive if you want all the goodies, so i agree 100% with RayRay.

Yeah, I think only 3.0 TDI 313hp and RS6 got the 8 speed tiptronic 😢 not sure about 3.0T

I'd get a C7 TDI in a heartbeat...if it came in an avant. C6 has the benefit of having the avant option. 3.0T Sedan vs 3.0T sedan, the 8 speed and seemingly better aftermarket would make me lean C7. No idea if the crown gear quattro setups will be as long lived as the torsen based systems - hopefully they will.

    In Europe yes.

For USA it was different over the years C7 was available in following variants:

    A6 Sedan 2.0T FWD Multitronic
    A6 Sedan 2.0T FWD S tronic
    A6 Sedan 3.0TDI quattro Tiptronic
    A6 Sedan 2.0T quattro Tiptronic
    A6 Sedan 3.0T quattro Tiptronic
    S6 Sedan 4.0T quattro S tronic

    p.s. RS6 C7 wasn't available for the USA market.

My answer owning both simultaneously, I have a 2016 C7.5 A6 prestige and a 2009 C6.5 Prestige. No comparison. The C7 is a massive step up in every way.
