    S4 3.0T and A6\A7 3.0T differences?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Are the engines exactly the same parts wise as the A6\A7?

One being 333HP and one being 310HP detuned.

I just picked up a 3.0T A6 and wondering if there is a way to bring my HP up to 333?

Different tune, different intake (I believe), and more drivetrain loss due to the tiptronic transmission. With a tune you should be making approximately the same numbers as the S4 at the crank

I've got a thread around here somewhere essentially asking the same thing. I'm seeing A6 3.0t's available CPO'd for less money than similar mileage S4's. Not sure I need the extra size right now, but if I can get an A6 that outputs around S4 power or slightly higher, that might be a tempting deal.

Also the exhaust plumbing and headers are probably different, I know on the C6.5 3.0Ts have smaller exhaust piping, and more traditional audi downpipes with cats. The C7 may have updated the exhaust plumbing though.

As long as you are aware that they are two VERY different driving experiences. Drive both, then decide which one suits your needs.

As I have not yet experienced driving an A6 (or really compelled to go make it happen for that matter), can anyone describe the driving experience difference? Just curious

Softer, slower responses. For a cross country freeway trip, A6 would be the choice. For a blast through the mountains or on a track, S4 is much more capable and fun.

    I love my C6.5 A6 3.0T stage 2+
    Ynnekdude has run a 12.6 in his A6 3.0T

Plenty of power and fun. Definitely not going to perform like the S4!!! (no sports-diff, soft suspension, tiptronic is laggy) However, with some well-chosen mods, it adds up to a great deal of power, fun, luxury and space.
Probably the most-affordable way to step into a 3.0T platform if you're in the market for CPO or used.

The largest differences you'll see are the airbox and software. A6/A7 factory software is heavily detuned in comparison to the 333hp S4. Why stop at just 333hp? There is so much more reliable power left in that engine.

Can you swap in an S4 larger airbox for more power?

I was given a loaner 2013 A6 3.0t when my S4 was in for service, and due to a scheduling mishap by the shop I was able to hang onto the A6 all weekend. We went on a weekend trip (couple hundred miles round trip) and I found the driving experience to be quite pleasant. The gadgetry and gauges/displays in the A6 blew my 2012 S4 out of the water....made it feel like a cheap japanese car when I got back into it the following Monday. The fuel efficiency seemed a little better than my S4....maybe due to being a de-tuned version of the same engine, but there was extra weight to pull too....anyway, the display showed 29mpg on the highway and calculating it by hand put me around 28 mpg. It pulled very hard when in 'S' mode, and was capable in regular 'D' mode.

If I am ready for a purely automatic transmission when the S4 runs its course, I may consider an A6 3.0t. Lowered a bit and with a nice set of 20" wheels in the proper offset, it's a great everyday driver / highway cruiser.
