    Front parking sensors.......why ohhhh why!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yes I know, but don't yell and scream. My garage is an extremely tight fit (literally 3-4" front and back) and also the parking deck is a tight fit as well. Why Audi would leave out the front parking sensors is beyond me. In any case, has anyone tried adding front parking sensors? Don't need four of them, one center one is enough.

Separately, a front cam would be even better, but not necessary.

    Thanks

Experienced the feature in a loaner A6 for about 2 weeks. Didn't think it was feature worth having prior to that, but having experienced it, not sure why Audi elected to leave it out. They cut a lot of corners with the A4/S4 in terms of minor features that are missing.

I think it's idiotic. I have no need for the rear sensors with the camera back there, but nothing in the front.

So that means that you back down it everytime you leave, right?

I totally agree with you on this. I don't know why Audi would leave out the front sensor.

Well yeah but I can back out almost blind-folded. I guess I am not explaining it well but the wall on one side makes pulling in forward and backing out easy, but not the reverse. Although I might try this for a week and see how I like it.

Alternative, I was flipping through old posts and it seems that a small camera wired to an AMI RCA cable is a super simple solution. Only question is weather there is an easy way to switch the MMI display between NAV (usual mode) and the AUX Video then back?

Yeah - there is a list of creature comforts they left out to keep price point down or profit high LOL.... Auto Folding mirrors, clip-in rear floor mats, metal gas flap door (it's plastic!), heated rear seats standard, front parking sensors, headlight cleaning system, etc etc etc...

Good eye. Those are my daughter's new SFB Shorties. 107mm wide underfoot for a 100# girl should make her float real good in the deepest pow. I take it you ski?

I would have PAID for auto folding mirrors! Bit upsetting that some of these smaller items are left out on a $58k car.

Not that I'd mind if more electronic creature comforts were options (ie. every bell and whistle available on the 3-series), but I justify it by saying it's less crap that'll break. Oh well... maybe in the B9.

I didn't know they made the SFBs as shorties. Your daughter will love them for sure. I DD 108mm underfoot (but in a much stiffer ski), and they're decent in boot deep pow and are absolute crud busters.

If it weren't for work and a wife getting in the way, I'd live in the mountains and ski every day. But yeah, we ski a ton. Today is actually opening day for us in the AB Rockies. Can't wait.

Sorry for major OT - ski season is a big deal :).

I have the laser interceptor (laser jammers) installed in the grill with a switch in the console to turn the setup into a parking sensor. The switch and parking sensor mode is mainly in case I have to explain the setup to a police officer, but it is functional. It gives an audio tone similar to the rear sensor.

Sorry for the thread jack, but SKIING son! I'm ready to get down. I picked up my Bachelor season pass last week, have trips squared away to Big Sky and Whistler this season, and converted my roof rack from bike trays to ski mounts. All I have left to do is get my tuning bench set up. Hail Ullr!

Whistler sounds awesome, it's time for me to get back into skiing. I don't think I'm going to buy new skus until I move back to California though. Too much of a hassle taking them on a plane.

I added a set of cheap china parking sensors to my S6- $15 for the kit. It's basically hooks to switched power (reverse light circuit typically). But you could install them anywhere.
    And they actually work great.

"I think it's idiotic. I have no need for the rear sensors with the camera back there, but nothing in the front. "

Considering the majority of people parallel park, it's handy to have a rear camera because it's difficult to know exactly where the rear bumper is, and a lot easier to know where the front is. Also, like others have said, buy a more expensive car and it will have all of these extra bells and whistles. Or wait 5 years and the next gen A4/S4 might have them then. And the tennis ball/whiffle ball trick, and 2x4 methods have worked for many for many years and only cost a few dollars.

I was going to grab one of these. Especially for the wife who parks in front of a whole bunch of filtering systems for my large saltwater reef tank.
One small bump and there could be A LOT of water in my garage… not to mention big $$ loss of livestock.
Plus i didn't really want to put something on the floor to trip on, or hang something to walk into.

It would have been better to leave "China" out. Had you really deemed it necessary to include that, "Chinese" would have been more appropriate.

Saw this kit, but would be pretty pricey all in with the install and I'm not ready to start taking my car apart just yet.

Yeah - it would be a clean OEM install though. But for sure one that you'd want to do yourself if possible. The dealership would probably be several hundred to install... I told my guy at the dealership they should offer this kit at purchase and could build it into the purchase price of the car. I'd have paid 1k extra for it at that time...

I have seen some guys in the B8 A4 section add them with all the OEM mounts. If I remember correctly the bumper already has the mount points on the inside, so it actually did not seem too difficult once you have all the proper pieces. I looked into it as my GF wants an Allroad, but does not want to give up her Q5 because it has front sensors and the Allroad does not! Tandem parking in tight apartment garages in Los Angeles will do that to you I guess.

Straight from the factory "race stock"

The 191 GS skis make the 205 super g skis look small.. I had 2 sets of newer super g skis that I ended up selling off because NOTHING is faster than those ones for some reason.

I will be out in Squaw on Feb 27th

There is a thread on here somewhere about a person (from South Africa, I believe) that installed the front sensors. I seem to recall from that thread that the North American cars have a different module than his can and European cars have so some adaptation was required. Don't recall the person's screen name but if you do a search you should come across it. I agree though with your sentiment though. I would have gladly paid for folding mirrors and front sensors if they were offered as options. Really disappointing that many of us order our cars from the factory and can't have these added to the build.

Or how about a few of these taped to your front fender? http://tinyurl.com/pb55rxr

When I pull into the garage, I shift into reverse to turn on the rear camera, then line up up the entry seam at cement edge on the floor with the marker line on the screen. This puts the rear of the car about a foot from the garage door.

It would be nice if more of the extra options were readily available for the USA S4 - Front sensors, HUD, side image.

some of the 14s have it, i assumed my headlight (non-adaptive) nozzle cutouts were empty plates until i misted my windshield and saw the cloud of overspray.
