    Audi b5 S4 vs. BMW 335

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am writing an essay on why the Audi b5 S4 is a superior car to the BMW 335, I read the car and driver article here it is if you wanna check it out
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...s-335i-Article

Was just hoping to get some help from other Audi owners.
Any input helps as to why the S4 is better than a 335 doesnt necessarily have to be a b5.

    Thanks Guys!

You picked a bad essay topic. The 335 is superior to the B5 S4 at about 95% of things.

    Price, traction, maybe modability.

I would only compare the b8 to the 335, any other gen s4 is just too old for a good comparison

Both are great cars but it's all up to the potential buyer which one is superior.
I love my b5 s4 and like it more overall than an e92 335i but I'm picking one up
for my daily driver most likely in december. Also people are going to start having
to look out for those vishnu single turbo 335's. Those thing s are badass.

If you live where it snows the answer is very obvious.

Friend has the 335i.... I spent a lot less money and am in the same general performance category... If I spent a little more then there would be no performance comparison(assuming 335 still stock).

I have both a B5 S4 & 335i and I'd take the 335i over a B5 S4 any day, the B8 on the other hand is a different story. Right now, if you're looking for performance, the 335i is the way to go, but Audi is way better with their interior. The S4 gets great traction in the PNW, right off the line and can really put the power to the ground, but once the 335i gets moving that torque really gets the car moving especially with the vishnu single turbo

not sure if 335i and b5 s4 is apples to apples comparison...
out of the show room performance wise, they aren't even close...
    doesn't b5 s4 have like 250 hp vs 300 for bmw?
also the driving dynamics of rwd vs awd has to be different...
i have never driven the single turbo 335 so i guess i'm just speculating more than anything but i personally can't afford to drive them newer bimmers so i guess i'm a bit biased here...
    my 2 cents...

Yea it isn't a direct comparison but I guess people like to compare because of twin turbo six
cylinders. Other than that 2 completely different cars. The 335 is RWD, I6, newer(updated looks),
and can see 450RWHP on stock turbos. To me almost a completely different animal. Also I'm
an audi head but I want something that looks good and I can make somewhat fast to have some
fun when the audi's down. Plus the only audi's in my price range (b8 a4,a5,a3) are slow and have less
    modability compared to the 335i.

I have both cars and I love both the same. Biggest advantage for the B5 right now is price. You can buy a stock S4 for $5k-$6k or a stage 3 for ~$10k.

I love the feel of interior on my b5. for those that have both, notice how thick the carpet is in b5 compared to 335? my335 has been a vette killer with just bolt on though. cant say that about my b5. 335 is good for 800 hp o stock bottom end. My single goes in next month. I have to say. I have had range rover, denali And have an escalade and i still prefer my b5 in the snow!

the 335 drives similar to a b5 s4 but is much better, even better than the difference between a b8 suspension and b5. However, the b5 weighs about 1000lbs less than both other cars so its still better.

Just FYI an e92 335i weighs about the same as a b5 s4 3,500 lbs give or take.
Also yes the vishnu 10 second 335i single turbo car has 700WHP and is on the stock bottom end
and as far as I know stock untouched head. It's similar to a 2j its 3L dohc inline 6 except with an aluminum
    block instead of iron.

    Big LOL at a 1000lb difference between 335i and B5 S4.

The difference is about 100lbs... and that advantage goes to the 335, not the B5 S4.

My buddy had both cars. I love the engine in the 335 but E90+ BMW electronics are a total nightmare unless you're a BMW dealer. You can't even change the radio without having to have every module on the car reprogrammed with BMW's software. They also have a fairly cheaply constructed fuse box on the BCM which can at times melt and cause many interior items to stop functioning and cost well over 1k to fix.

    335 engine = amazing
    E90/91/92 = programming nightmare

Sorry OP, but this is a loosing argument, as much as I love my S4... The 335i is like 10yrs new technology, with a bigger engine, better suspension, and superior weight-balance. If I had the cash and a choice between the two, I'd get a 335is without a question.

    A better comparison would be the B8 S4 and a 335ix.

The thought of a more modern, tunable twin turbo 6 cylinder enticed me, so I looked up the 335. Normally I am not one to say the interior is dated or ugly. For a 2008, that interior is dated and awful. the steering wheel and seats look like something out of a 96 Corsica. What a turn off!
