Is there a trick to keep the damping control light off?

Seems like such a waste to get a car with full ADS and then not put ADS capable shocks back in it.

Of course it is but after 4 years I've decided to go lower:

    Option 1:
Springs, I'll screw my ADS shocks really fast

    Option 2:
ST coilovers, cheap solution but several reviews say they are noisy, clunky on the A4

    Option 3:
H&R coilovers, good choice but the damping control light would be on all the time

    Option 4:
KW DDC ECU coilovers, price is too steep

I'm going with H&R but I need to know how to turn off the damping control light besides the KW option, 450 for these cancellation sensor is crazy

I don't think they've really figured out a way to turn it off yet. Might have to live with it or just buy the KW option.

Im sure there is a way to vag com it out, just like how you can add ads to the menu, almost be the opposite i would think, just take suspension off as an option.

Pretty sure people have tried this with no luck (insofar as they reasonably tried). Unfortunately, I think you have to buy this kit to remove the error.

Davidb8 may be able to help you, since he has done a lot of B8 modifications and coding, his website shows enabling the throttle details part of ADS; http://www.audienthusiasts.com/Project_ADS.html

Portions of the ADS can be coded out/in, but likely the suspension control module would have to be removed as well along with the coding. The car will notice the suspension module being installed, even if it's coded out, and I suspect if it's removed that would work as well. Have yet to try this though.

Its not possible, I already explored the options. And by possible, I mean someone without the full VAGina computer tool to do it.

I would give it a shot to remove the module and uncode that portion of the ADS as mentioned with David's instructions.

Just having modules installed into the car even when they are coded out will trip error messages about incorrect coding and others because the system is still detecting that module. Pop it off of the system and it should no be an issue or it will change the codes in other modules which will lead us to the places that need additional coding changes if it's possible to do.

Can you show me where it is? Coils are on and I have the light. I wanted to explore the coding options before giving KW more of my money but from what I see here coding isn't going to solve this. It only controls the adaptive suspension and nothing else right?

There is an ADS supsension Yaw sensor, but I am not sure if it is only connected to the J250 controller or has any other electrical connections to the chassis.

    "Electronic Damping Control Module (J250)

    Removing

The electronic damping control module is located behind the right luggage compartment side trim panel.

    Turn off all electrical consumers.
    Remove the key.
Remove the cover from the right luggage compartment storage compartment.
Release and disconnect the connector - 3 "

The controller is wired to each damper, each level sender and 3 acceleration senders. Then it has two communication lines to the data bus interface. As mentioned I don't know if this module has anything else in it that would be looked upon by another controller for information. My guess is it wouldn't because then cars without full ADS would need yet another module to replace what was being used in the ADS module, plus it wouldn't be so easy to code out the damping system alone.

Interested to see how it behaves with the module gone and the damping portion of ADS fully coded out.

    You would unplug the module.

Then use the coding from David's site to turn off only the suspension controls for ADS. In the Central Module, unclick the Magnetic Ride Suspension Installed box.

If that gets rid of the light on the dash it's a success. If it doesn't do a full scan of the car to see what modules now have error codes that might be associated with the missing suspension module. Paste those codes up here if they come up.

Might be a bit premature but I was looking around at the other options and under instruments, Byte 4, I unclicked "Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) Installed" and the light went away. Going to run to the gym and see if all is well. If so I'll start a new thead to get more exposure.

apexit1 has moved on to a F80 M3 - check him out on the BMW boards - I think his handle is the same.

As I stated he moved to the F80 M3 - almost 100% positive he's moved on from that platform too as well. I met up with him like 7yrs ago to buy some parts so I wouldn't expect any answers - he's gone LOL.

I know this thread has been around for some time but I wanted to share my experiences with coding out the DRC on my 2013 RS5. Soon after buying the car in January of this year I was getting the all too familiar metallic knocking from the front suspension, I tried everything to cure the fault before resorting to removing the springs and shocks completely and replacing with a coilover set I had lying around from a previous A5 project. I knew about the cancellation from KW and others but I really didn't want to spend even more money on this car just to get it running normally so trawled this and other forums for help. So cut to the chase, I completely coded out the DRC and its associated faults from my car. Here's what I did (using VCDS).......

    1. In the Canbus module untick the Electrical Suspension module (number 14 on the installed list) This will take a few moments to register that it's been removed. This should not be available as a module to select if successful
    2. In central electrics (09) using the coding page untick bit 3 of byte 8. This removes reference to suspension control from ADS
    3. Instruments module (17) Untick bit 4 of Byte 4
    4. in ABS Brakes module (03) untick bit 5 of byte 2
and finally unplug all connectors from the DRC module located the the boot. There should be three, one for power and Canbus, one for the damper motor drive and another for the damper positioning feedback.
When I sorted mine I got a few fault codes relating to Sports differential and ABS which will clear. This occurred because I disconnected the DRC module before coding out its reference in the ABS module.

This worked for me and saved me £390. You may have a different experience and I cannot take responsibility if you brick your car. Just got the brakes and tyres to upgrade now.
    Good luck

I will deff give it a try ! THANKS!!

Do you have active headlight? After all we tried, we are getting either suspension fault or/and light malfunction!

Not sure why you would get a light malfunction fault as the ride height doesn't change when the dampers stiffen. You may have another issue. There are two suspension level sensors that may be causing a problem or one was damaged when the suspension was changed.
