What to do with a cracked bell housing 6MT?

I have a 6 speed manual transmission that has a broken bell housing. The crack is pretty clean and I was considering welding it back since I would have no problem from both sides. I just wanted to see what others thoughts were and any suggestions on the matter. Should I attempt to fix it or scrap it for parts?

Just speaking from personal experience here. I had an eclipse gst with a softball sized hole in the bell housing, I epoxied a piece of sheet metal over the hole. Did fine for 6 months until I sold it. I would imagine welding a crack would be ok. I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in though.

I welded up a subaru trans case before then grinded it smooth with a die grinder. It held up just fine for years on a 400whp car.

Would you say it would drastically reduce the value of it if I were to sell it?

That really depends on who you sell it to. Some people are afraid of everything. I eventually sold the trans I mentioned previously for the same amount I would have sold a never cracked one. I sold it to a well known performance shop. I let them know it was cracked and rewelded, they didn't seem concerned. How did you crack the bell housing? Mine broke when a careless friend knocked it off the workbench.

Are you an experienced welder? Cast aluminum is sometimes difficult to weld, and usually doesn't look pretty afterwards.
