will a valve cover from a longitudinal 1.8t fit any other longitudinal 1.8t? i have a cover off a ~99 passat that i painted up very nice but it wouldn't fit all the way down and it made me mad. im pretty sure its possible but it wasn't working for me.

There are three different valve covers for the longitudinal 1.8T. While they all have some differences, they should all bolt up to the 1.8T head.

The early AEB valve cover does not have the breather "hump" on the right side. It also doesn't have the mounting points for the larger engine cover that covers the fuel rail.

By 1998 the late AEB had the breather hump added, but was not drilled through. It also does not have a "windage tray" beneath the hump that the AWM cover does.

You can see the tray I'm talking about here.

Lastly, the AWM cover has the hump, has a tray beneath the hump, and is drilled through for a breather connection.

yes, all 20v 1.8t valve covers (longitudinal and transverse) will fit on all 20v heads. any combination will work. if you wouldn't fit it down, its probably cocked and you need to shimmy it on properly. but like lorge said, there are differences between covers. they will all fit, but remember the breathers are different and the coil holes are different
