    New member. 2012 V8 S5 or 2014 V6?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thought I should see what you guys have to say before I go and purchase the car. Currently in a 2012 BMW 535 xi but need another car. I am looking at the S5 because I want a coupe but not sure which one to go with. I will end up doing performance mods for sure because the 535 is purely stock.

Do you guys think I should go with the 2012 V8 or go for a new 2014 S5 V6

Also manual vs auto what do you guys suggest.
Any specific options that I should make sure are on the car if I go ahead and choose to go for the 2012 V8 S5?

You're going to get way more power out of the V6 for your buck. Plus with the 2013/2014 car you're going to get all the updated components.. Steering wheel, MMI, etc. These cars have a great auto(DSG) imo, but it's up to you whether you want a manual or not.

I used to mess around with a TL-s before. Fully Bolted and Supercharged but sucks having that much power on a front wheel drive. The 535 isn't meant to be modded really haha but just wondering whats up with the components on the S5. Like the M3 we'd change out to hi flow cats, X pipe and an exhaust to go fully bolted. Is the S5 separated into 3 sections like that. Going to do my research completely before I choose which S5. You really think id get much more power out of the 2014 V6? Im sure the other components would be more updated.

Without a supercharger, you will get WAY more power. Just look at the stage 1 tuning difference.

Well with the 3.0T V6 being supercharged you will have almost another 100hp to squeeze out just with a pulley and tune. The V8 will give you maybe 20hp tips with full exhaust, tune, and intake. Also the drive select being standard on the 14 is a nice option and the mmi is a big difference IMHO. My roommate has a 07 535xi and my modded a5 will embarrass him in a straight line and takes no prisoners in the corners. A nicely modded 3.0T will be night and day to the 5 series.

So far most people have been telling me to go with the new V6

Any MUST options that I should get? If i went with the prestige with 7 speed.....whats with the adaptive dampening and sports differential options

What are the main differences between the premium plus and prestige?

P+ and prestige are packages. To know all the differences just go to audis website. It really depends on if you want good stock or great aftermarket products. I'd highly recommend a chip and pulley with full exhaust and high flows. Also look into alu kreuz and sway bars. Most importantly would be a drop and some spacers. E code headlights if you got the cash. However with any performance mods to the engine audi will void your warranty.

Just got my 2014. Fantastic car. I sell Audis for a living so I know and drive all of them. The V-8 S5 is a nice car but is not as sharp as the later Supercharged cars. You buy that car for the lesser price and the sound of the engine. Even the automatic in the older V8 cars is the boring Tiptronic auto 6 speed. The 2013 and up cars get the double clutch S-Tronic transmission which is miles better for performance applications. Spend about 1800 bucks on the new V6 car and you go from about 340 hp to over 400 horsepower plus.

yeah was just doing my research. Only $1800 and those are SIGNIFICANT gains. 2014 seems to be the much better price. Around how much did the car cost you out the door

Depending on options, figure about 62K plus about 10% for taxes and fees (at least in California.)

Def a 13/14 in my opinion, the V8 was nice, and sounded amazing, but the supercharged V6 is pretty fantastic and much more perf upgrade options.

The V6T is an amazing engine. Could not recommend the v8.

Plus, if I understand the data right, the V8s are far more prone to carbon buildup.

2011 S4 with the 3.0t threw a CEL at 36K miles. Carbon buildup...

All the direct injection engines are prone to the carbon buildup, especially with lots of steady highway driving.

Audi told me to drive it like i stole it once a month to lessen the build up.

They cover the carbon build up for 10 years now tho.

Not exactly, only the emission controls is extended, a flapper valve in the PCV system as I recall. Cleaning intake valves is under normal warranty and then only with a CEL on.

V6 is better on gas, takes better to mods (if you're into that), and has blower whine. The V8 sounds epic, but drinks gas, drinks oil, doesn't get much gains with mods, and weighs more.

    I love my V8 S5, but a part of me wishes I had the s/c V6.
