will a auto radiator work in a manual?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm doing my timing belt and have discovered a few other unexpected things i need to replace as well. One of which being my radiator that has a small leave from the power stearing cooler bracket infront of the radiator hiting and putting a tiny puncture in one of the channels.

Anyways, there is a guy an hour away from me selling a AUTO radiator from an S4 for 40$ however i have a manual.

From what I am seeing on ECS, they look interchangable, the only difference Im seeing is the Auto has two hook ups for an oil cooler?

As mentioned, you can use it. Not sure how'd you go about plugging them anyway.

    It's a transmission fluid cooler.

I had to replace the radiator in my Wife's jeep and when I was reattaching the transmission fluid lines I stripped the threading so I just bought an external cooler. I just left the Transmission fluid ports open. No issues there..

    Different car, same principle.

Auto rad will work. The ports are left open. They are closed off inside the end tank and only circulate transmission fluid when they are hooked up.

Random thought. Can you hook it up to use as a secondary oil cooler?

Physically, yes. You'd need to chop off the bungs from a TIP car though. It's not a threaded fitting, it's a slip-on o-ring style that's then secured with a plate welded to the tube and screwed down. So you'd need the ends from the trans on a TIP. Trying to size down from 3/8" (or whatever most plate adapters are) to the size of the tubing on the cooler is what might concern me.

There is an 01 A6 2.7t at the junkyard by me.. I could try to pull the ends of the transmission lines that go into the radiator. Just pay shipping + $2 entrance fee and whatever they charge me for the lines. Usually things like that they don't charge much more than a few dollars.
