does the computer require time to adjust to new o2 sensor?

just installed a new o2 sensor as i was getting the p1103 code. My mpg was down to 22 with mixed driving. on the older 5 cylinder cars, I remember a certain number of key cycles before the ECU would adapt to the new o2 sensor. are the B6 cars the same way, or is it instantaneous? Im 80 miles in, and at the first 3/4 tank mark, I was expecting to be at least 100 miles at this point. I have about a weeks worth of gas left till i fill up and check mpg. will i notice a change on the first full tank? filled my tank when i installed new 02, just cleared the code today

    thanks

For the ECU, yes it takes 3 cycles as you saw when your CEL went off. As far as MPG. Just reset it and see what you get. Cause it will take some time and if doesn't change then might be something else.

Thanks, I figured it would be something like that. I didn't get a cel, just the code.

Doesn't removing the battery terminals for some minutes also do the trick?

I believe that just resets things, still needs to set adaption. Don't quote me on that

Yes, the ECU does have to readapt, and if you did not clear codes this is a bit longer process because the ECU adapted to the sh**ty conditions brought on by the bad sensor so it slowly has to readapt to normal condtions. Normally clearing the codes with a scanner resets adaptations and allows for a quick "relearn." If you still have issues you more than likely have another issue

About to hit 100 miles at the 3/4 tank mark. I reset the ecu code at 80 miles after o2 install.
Be nice if the mpg comes up to 24-25 mixed.
I have a hard time judging my driving conditions as mixed or highway. I usually drive on 55 mph highways, but there's small towns and stop signs every few miles, so I'm guessing all that stop and go acceleration reduces mpg. I was getting 23-24 when I got the car and driving around my home town, on the highway I was getting 29 doing 65-70 for 330 miles. Crazy how different they can be
