strange issue with rear parking sensors...only works in warm weather!

very odd issue I've been experiencing and I've decided that I need some external advice.

My 06 A6 4.2 is in great shape, but the one issue that seems to exist is that when I'm reversing the car in cool/cold weather the rear parking sensors simply don't work and all I hear is one long tone (i.e. 3 seconds long) and nothing appears in the my MMI display. However, on warm and hot days, the rear parktronic sensors work great! I get the beeping sound that alerts me to how far I am away from an object and I also get the MMI displaying an image of the car and showing which sensor is alerting and how far away I am.

Does anyone have experience with a similar issue and have any advice on what I could do to fix?

    Thanks

Sounds like you have a moody car that doesn't like when you leave him in the cold.

Have you check the cables and the integrity of the sensors? Are they sealed? Maybe Moisture... is getting in? Does it happen when you wash it?

    Too many variables i'd say.

I had the same problem. 3 faulty sensors. Replaced all 3 and works fine now.

Put the car in reverse and listen to each sensor to hear if it's clicking. No click, not working. It's quite an obvious click, you can hear it easily if there working

So my car is kept in an insulated garage and the temp never drops below 55F in it. Even on dry days and when it's cool, the backup sensors don't work. However, when I wash my car on a warm day and I put the car in reverse, the parktronic system works fine! It does not seem to be moisture related at all and seems to be entirely based upon temp.

Do any of you guys know if the module that controls the parktronic is in the trunk and if I can remove it, clean it up and re-seat it. Since if it's based upon heat alone, I have to believe the issue is a nature expansion and contraction scenario which is entirely heat/cold related and maybe there's a loose fit or something somewhere.

I believe the Parktronic module is located in the trunk on the right side compartment. I dont have it installed in my car but from what I have read and seen, it is there.

ok thanks...I assume it's right where the Sirius/XM radio module is installed. I'll take a look at it tonight and remove and reinstall the module associated with the parktronic.

BTW, found this thread on it...http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post7003243

well I removed the module...or at least what I thought was the module and did not see any issues with it or the connectors that plugged into it. Still have the issue and was wondering if anyone else has advice on this issue?

I had this issue too when it would only work when it was cold out. I had scanned it, found intermittent connection on the inside right sensor. I had cleaned everything, still nothing. Finally bite the bullet and replaced the sensor, and fixed and no issues anymore.
