    VW Touareg vs Audi Q7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The wife and I are considering trading our family vehicle for Q7 or Touareg TDI.. Both vehicles has advantages, The Touareg has nicer interior, the Q7 has more room... We're tore between the two, both cost in the same ballpark, I know the Q7 has a better resale value.
Anyone have pro/cons between the two. I've been trying to gather info online, but can't find any owner comments.

    Thanks

All I can say is my coworker just got a Touareg TDI and absolutely LOVES it! She told me about an emergency trip she took from MD to Florida, and said it performed amazingly. Drove all night, full of power, cruising between 80 and 100 the whole time, and only needed a fill up once along the way, I think she said. Plus she mentioned it was comfortable.

Can't give you any comments about the Q7, sorry.

The key question is... do you need a third row? If you do, then the Q7 is the one, period. The Touareg does not have third row seats, but other than that, they are both great vehicles. Would I be bias by saying go with the Q7?

My wife and I are in the same boat.....although the Q7 isnt really on our radar. We are looking more at a 2010 V6 TDI. We are trading in her Jetta TDI. The Q7 is more money, and as much as I love Audi, the Q7 without a TDI means you'll be at the pump putting in premium every four days. We test drove a TDI and fell in love with the TQ of that V6. Dont be so sure the Q7 has a better resale. A low mile 2010 TDI with premium package, is fetching about 37k these days. I cant speak on the 2012-2013, as we arent in the market for that year. Good luck

I owned a 2006 V10 TDI Treg and a 2007 V8 FSI Q7. Things to consider: do you need the third row seat? What sort of climate is this geared towards? Any offroading? The first two generations (first then facelift really) through 2010 of touaregs had significantly more capable 4x4 with options for locking diffs etc, those early touaregs were absolute tanks, try as I might I never got that thing stuck in several feet of snow. If you're looking at newer ones I would still vote touareg, the Q7 is long overdue for an update and these new touaregs seem to show promise for build quality and reliability based on what I read on ClubTouareg, where I'm still a member. If the extra space is crucial obviously the favor tips towards the Q7 but as a "big" SUV it's really not that big, the third row is borderline useless and even with all those seats folded it doesn't offer that much more space than a touareg. The Diesel engines are the way to go for sure, the old V8 was abysmal on gas and still not very quick so go with the TDI, no brainer.

I have driven both extensively (helped with the launch of the Q7 in Germany) and now own a 12 Treg TDI. The Treg is a great ride and if you do not need the 3rd row I would go this direction. They share many components and IMO I like the Treg.

Is the Toureg assembled in Germany or Mexico now?

Ah, for some reason when we test drove the new Toureg I thought the sales guys said they were making these in Mexico now. Thanks!

The third seat IMO is useless, what I like about the q7 is the added trunk space. I have a three year old and 1 year old, amazing how much stuff we lug around ontrips, not to mention a stroller that will occupy most of the Touareg trunk.
I have to agree the T has an amazing interior, just find the overall vehicle a bit small. I wonder if the rumors are true, America will see a revised Q7 in 2015

it really comes down to whether you want or need the extra size, third row, or awd system in the Q7. I'm not sure I can agree that the Toureg has a better interior either. you could also consider the Porsche Cayenne diesel.

If you are seriously concerned about cargo space, I don't think waiting for the 2015 Q7 is going to do any good. My best guess based of the spy photos is that it will be slightly smaller than the current generation.
