Almost exactly same process as on 1.8T: Drain, flush, disconect hoses to remove old tank, install new tank, connect hoses, fill in new coolant, burp air out

No need to drain or flush if you're just replacing the plastic expansion tank. It's at the top of the system, you can replace it without putting any air into the system.

Get replacement tank and hose clamps for the 2 hoses that connect to it (I think they're around 1/2" and 7/8"). Remove original 1-use hose clamps.

    Clamp shut both hoses.

Pull original tank loose with coolant still in it, disconnect coolant sensor, remove and drain coolant tank.

Connect sensor to new tank, install tank, connect hoses with new hose clamps, refill with coolant mix.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just replaced my coolant tank and it didn't appear that the hose clamps were of a "single-use" type. I'm not the original owner of the car, so I don't know if they're stock, but the clamps on the car could be squeezed with pliers to open and seemed to close okay. I didn't have to cut, twist, pry, etc. Should I be out looking for screw-type clamps, or should I be okay?

    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    Bryan

You'll be fine re-using the squeeze clamps unless you somehow over-squeezed and mangled them.

I personally buy new screw clamps from Advance Auto or AutoZone to replace old clamps but that's just me.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've kept the plastic engine cover off for now so I can have a good look after driving for the next few days. Things seem secure, so I hope I'm good to go.

    Cheers,

The factory spring clamps work fine. I recently replace my coolant tank too and reused the factory clamps. It is nice to see my purple/pink updated coolant clearly.
