    HI guys..
i decided to change my air filter myself and bought a Fram CA10552 air filter. Guy at my local store said it was compatible and after installation seems to fit well, just wondering if anyone has used this product before and any ideas on how good it is!!

    thanks

Don't cheap out on the air filter... Get your self the OEM one from the dealer its about 30$ or get an aFE Dry S Air Filter high flow for a few bucks more.

Fram is a pretty big manufacturer and they also make the OEM filters some brands use, so I think you'll be OK with it. Should work just as well as an OEM part from the dealer, just cheaper and without the Audi logo.

The OEM one is "Hangst" at least on my car. I figured there is so little cost with going oem that it makes 0 sense to use anything else in the stock category (excluding K&N and AFE).
Fram, used it before on other cars, can't say its great but at the same time its also far from the worst.

I suppose you could examine the Fram and oem side by side and compare the quality of materials, number of pleats and so forth.

I've had a couple of Fram air filters collapse inside the air box. The adhesive holding the element to the surround on the filter failed causing it to collapse. Same on both instances. Luckily, they weren't in my Audi. One was a Ford F150 and the other was a Mazda 3. I will never use another Fram.

I will stick with Mann on my Audi!

I would never buy anything Fram.

Fram is also twice the price as the mann.

Autozone/Advance who sell the Fram have to special order it.

Mann is stocked at my local import shop. I paid $14 for it.

I have heard the fram airhog is a good filter but I would never buy anything with the fram name on it. Many oil filters are rebranded frams. Do a search and find the reference chart so you know what to avoid.

    Frank,
I am the tech manager at FRAM. FRAM air filters are 99% efficient, there is no OE or any other brand of filter that is any better at keeping dirt out of your engine. . As far as the FRAM basher who claims multiple failures, there is a common thread to your story, figure it out. When properly installed, this never occurs. If the collapse occurred after driving through puddles, we make a stronger filter for those types of driving conditions called Tough Guard. K+N oiled filters allow 7x's more dirt into your engine than a typical paper filter, look up the independent filter study posted on the GMC Truck forum. A higher flowing air filter will not improve the performance of your car at any speed other than WOT and then only if the stock air filter has a restriction greater than the throttle body diameter.

You just basically implied with your post that I'm an idiot that has no clue how to install an air filter. Very classy on your part, Sir. I, in no way bashed your products. I related my experience with said product. I can assure you now that I will never use your products ever again.

Using a Fram Filter is like putting 87 Fuel in your Car. Why would you do it if you purchased a luxury car?

I agree. Fram is what it is - cheap junk product that is only worth it if you drive a junk car and are on a budget and do not want to pay extra for a quality product. To the Fram manager - just be thankful that most consumers are uninformed and will continue to use your product when they buy a DIY bundle at autozone. Nobody on this forum is going to put a Fram on their car unless they're not enthusiasts or they are uninformed. If they're on this forum, they're probably an enthusiast and by being here they are probably informed. If you are going to come on the internet and try to defend Fram as a quality product, you're probably going to fail.
