    Running Aux-In Cables

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Doing the Aux-In mod on by B7 A4. Running into a small issue...

I wanted to install the aux in similarly to how this is installed:

    except with this:

...but have NO clue how Ill get the wires there.

Does anyone have a clue what the best way to get the wiring over there is? Didn't want to try removing the console because VW/Audi plastics can suck majorly. Open to suggestions... want to do it the best way I can without needing to tear apart my entire interior.

For those who will suggest it, Yes, ive searched. I found this thread and while it does solve the problem, it does so by going above and WAY beyond what I need to do. Im just trying to run a set of wires to the area next to the cigarette outlet for the Aux-In.

As stated before, suggestions and other insight welcome.

    Thanks!

Actually, there is a simpler method.

Run it behind the head unit..and pull it down the side out to the passenger side.......

then pull out the cigarette lighter (the one behind the ebrake, comes off with a hard tug).

Route the wires from the outside, and pull it back in, from the bottom (right near the passenger seat belt), and pull it out from the cigarette lighter assembly, where you will solder the wires to your said AUX plug)

Then neatly tuck them back in (around the bottom of the centre console, along the passenger side)

I dropped the wires down from behind the radio, and was able to get to them after removing the shift boot (I have the 6mt). From there I pryed off the cover that's under the E-brake handle and ran them back towards the arm rest. The plastic piece with the 12v plug where you want to install the aux in comes off as well. Pretty straight forward, be careful prying the pieces out, but sometimes it takes more force than you really want to use. If you have a 6mt, the shift boot comes out by 'squeezing' the left and right sides of the chrome/trim piece towards the center, then it just lifts out.

how did i not find this! WOW!

    Yes! this literally answered everything.

The only question I had left was what pins fit in the harness for the Aux-In piece. Do both ends use the same repair wire connector? I take your guide as a yes, but wasn't 100% sure.

Alright. I'll have to contact my wiring guy today to find out if I can get more of those repair wires, assuming the pin connector is the same for both the aux port harness and the RNS-E harness.

Hoping to get this finished over the weekend. Need more tunes for the drive to h2o!

It's too bad that this can't be done to the Sym II. I'm just not wanting to pony up for a II+ and the cables right now.

Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that even if you upgrade to the Symphony II+ and Kufatec Harness, you cannot create an auxillary input like you can do if your car came with the Symphony II+ or RNSE. Models that came with the basic Symphony II are not programmed in the ECU for an auxillary port at all, and it is not something that you can add into the ECU as far as I know. If something has changed, I would love to know.

yes you can.. you need the cheap ebay cable to enable aux input in the sII+ I have 05.5 and I had no problems upgrading.
    Cheers!

Yes, you can do it if your car came with a Symphony II+ to begin with. If your car came with a Symphony II that you upgraded to a Symphony II+ you cannot, as the AUX input is not even a coding option. Believe me, I tried with a VAG-COM Cable and it was not available: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index..._Generation_II

Clever A4 I don't think what you posted is entirely accurate. Your ability to run aux cables depends the head unit, but does not depend on the head unit your car came with originally. I.e. your ability to run aux has nothing to do with the engine ECU as you noted above.

You should be using this coding for Sym II+. The coding you posted is for the Sym II...
