AKRAPOVIC Audi RS5 Titanium Exhaust System

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Finally Akrapovic released an evolution exhaust to the RS5. I'm yet to hear one but from what I heard about Akrapovic in the M3 forum I expect this to sound as good as the M3. It is pricy $6,350 .
What do you guys think is it worth it? I’m going to lose my sleep over this
Not sure if the pictures will load as I have a problem with attaching pictures so I'm going to include the link as well

Is it me or does the Capristo sound better? I know I might seem a little biased, but still, I expected this exhaust to sound much more aggressive.

Yeah the Akrapovic sounds more refined while the Capristo sounds more raw. It's definitely tamer, but has a great exhaust note without any of the raspy-ness I've heard on other exhausts

Edit: and with the valves open it's a nice deep rumble

Funny I ‘m listening to Capristo now and I was thinking the same!! From the M3 forum guys there say it is not that loud but it has an exotic tone that can not be matched. For sure I need to listen to it more before even thinking about it; hopefully there will be more videos. But the tips are the best I've seen so far (not a fan of the stock look).

Titanium will always have a unique acoustic signature that can't be matched by stainless or aluminized steel.

I'm not feeling it with the deep sound, on stock it's ok and very civilized, but for AM I'd like to hear something screaming, like my old RS4 with a full Millltek.

Very unique sound, completely different from the OE Sports Exhaust or the raspy AWE.

Plenty of options out there, fellas. Pick your flavor.

Akrapovic always has very unique sound, even on motorcycles. It never was the loudest, but it has been one of the best crafted exhaust.

I think it sounds great. But I think the twin pipe in oval pipe design just looks wrong.

I don't hate the look, but yeah it's a little unconventional. The important part is how the system sounds. I would love to hear a stock (sports) vs. Akrpovic vs. Capristo. I'm currently leaning toward the Capristo, but this could change. I already bought the GoPro camera!

Sounds great! But $6300... even $3300. It adds nothing in regards to performance, its only for sound. Its 10% the cost of the whole car. Titanium or whatever. Hard to burn this amount of money for some titanium tubing.

Ti is considerably lighter than stainless. Less weight, better performance.

We just installed a system on a customers RS5, you can view it in this forum in our build thread. We are waiting on him to supply us with some sound clips ;)

    The tips are just amazing...

Wow! Read this. It explains the differences including weight.

    http://www.differencebetween.net/obj...-and-titanium/

I spent $1,600 on exhaust before and put the stock exhaust back on to trade in the car. In 6-9 months the exhaust stated to wear. It took a lot of clean up and resold for about 60% of original cost. I believe if I had waited any longer I would've been screwed. With titanium, I'm thinking it'd withstand the elements better. With that being said, what do they use to weld titanium. Are the welds going to be as durable as the titanium tubing? I just don't know if it's worth it. If it was me, I'd just gut out my stock mufflers and see how that sounds. I've done it with a motorcycle once, never a car. My $0.02

I agree I would like to hear the 3 before making my mind. Capristo is louder but from what I heard on youtube it seems to make the Rs 5 sound like a muscle car which I hate. If you end up getting Capristo let me know and I wouldn't mind the drive just to hear it :) [

I can see from your pics that you have spacers on your wheels? These will by far undo any microscopic gains from the weight reduction. Okay, I have no idea what the weight reduction is- is it 10 pounds? 50 pounds? 100 pounds? Maybe, just maybe you have a point. However, unsprung weight reduction is where you get performance improvements. The opposite of what most seem to be doing these days with bigger wheels and spacers.

not to mention his wheels are forged, not vossens, so its probably as light as a 18 inch oem. and his custom aero grade spacers which is is probably light as a feather

Heading over Saturday to see my local guy at Eastside Motoring to pick up my Alu Kreuz. I'm going to have him price out both a Capristo and an Akrapovic.

There's another forum member who lives real close to me (Tyler, MACRS5) who put the Capristo on his RS5. Been trying to find a time to meet up and check his out. He also has one of the few Estoril finishes, which I think is an awesome color.

It's so hard to tell from videos how an exhaust will sound. The S5 at the top of this thread sounds really good. I love the deep rumble. That's what I'm after, not necessarily the screaming F1 sound.

I agree. however if the titanium system is 50 pounds lighter or more than the stock exhaust you can't deny the possibilities. I doubt it's that much though, maybe more like 10-15 pounds. Anyone knows here the actual weight saving?

I actually wasn't asking questions about performance. I was merely stating my feelings about the price of these exhausts. Not trolling for argmuments by any means. I love the sound of this exhaust, might be the best sound I have yet heard via video. I just don't comprehend the pricing. I don't see the value, personally. If it gained some reasonable performance and sounded this good... It would still depend... How much performance. Everyone bitches about the APR chips price vs performance... Thats 10% of the cost and likely equally as effective as the exhaust. Maybe more so.

this can be said about anything. a 80$ swatch watch vs a $35k hublot watch. they both do the same thing. they tell the date and time.

price sets apart from craftsmenship, materials, quality etc.

simple as this. if you cant justify spending the money for it, then dont get it. this exhaust is meant for "ballers" who has the funds to blow, want something diff, and can appreciate what a gorgeous system it is.

as for me, i wouldnt spend over 1500 on an exhaust. cause im a poor bastard

Partially agree. I'm a big fan of many expensive things. I have camera lenses that cost significantly more than this exhaust. I know I pay a premium. I also know they have value that might even rise over time besides bringing me joy daily. We're talking about metal tubing here.... Tubing at 10% of the cost of the whole car. Just my opinion.
