    Removing VHT Wrinkle Paint

    Quick question here...

Last weekend I took care of the valve cover gasket and painted the valve cover with black VHT Wrinkle paint... I of course put the valve cover back on too soon and sprung an oil leak at the back. I took off the valve cover again and added some additional sealant, let the car sit overnight and now the gasket is A-OK.

Needless to say the paint is RUINED, I was putting the valve cover back on the 2nd time in the dark and was becoming impatient so scratched the hell out of the paint. I would like to take off the valve cover and repaint this weekend but have no idea what would be the best route to remove the current VHT paint. I would of course love to be able to drive all the way to work with the valve cover and sand blast (is sand blasting a valve cover even a good idea?) but I really only have 1 vehicle. Would soaking the valve cover work OK? Soak in what exactly?

I want to go Wrinkle Red this time around anyway...

    any help is appreciated!

I would recommend going to walmart or an advance auto, whatever and look for something called "Aircraft Remover" it will take just about anything of a surface. I used it to strip the fishscale stuff off my trim for the brushed aluminum trim look. You spray it on let it sit for a minute or two and scrub away. I would suggest wearing gloves and goggles because the stuff is really nasty if you get it on your skin or eyes for an extended period of time.

What he said. Aircraft remover will take anything off anything lol. They make a gel too that you spread on the surface and it eats the paint off. Just be careful what you put it on and definitely do it in an open space with good ventilation, wear gloves, goggles and a mask if you can because the smell is brutal.

    Scrub with Scotch-Brite?

Aircraft remover, how did I not think of that?!?!

    Thank you for the replies!

I see the black VHT Wrinkle paint at EVERY auto store around Atlanta, I have yet to see the Red but I'm determined to find it. I'm contemplating painting the intake mani as well...

You can order the red online, just google it. A guy who works at my shop is putting a new engine in and he bought red and white crinkle paint online. Can't remember where though

Jegs actually sells it. Here's the link. They have free shipping too
